Iowa Eyes 65-Foot Twin Trailers On Highways
R G Hileman executive secretary of the Iowa Motor Truck Association says no weight increases would occur if 65-foot twin trailers are allowed in Iowa. The proposal, before the Iowa Legislature, would keep current interstate weight limits while expanding trailer length to 65 feet. Supporters argue longer twins improve efficiency, reduce handling, and distribute load better, with tests showing tighter turns than 55-foot semis and safety records cited from 1969.
