At the First National Bank Building in Batesville robbers forced entry between 1 and 2 AM on Saturday, used nitroglycerin to blow the safe door, escaping with about forty dollars in nickels. A guard fired back, two suspects fled west to New Point then north toward Knochsburg, leaving a cambric shield mimicking the door.

Children and grandchildren gathered at East Walnut Street home on Saturday noon to surprise Mrs Charles Erdmann Jr celebrating her seventieth birthday. Sixteen family members attended and a splendid dinner was served with many useful and ornamental presents.

James Stephenson, fifty, a railroad construction boss in Shelbyville, was held up and robbed Friday evening by two unidentified men. They beat him severely, nearly injuring his left eye, and fled with twenty five dollars from his pockets.
On Tuesday morning the Adams neighborhood sent families including Joe Webbard, George Reed and family, Irvin Reed and daughter, J A Shuppert and family, Ed Mec Gimm and family, Clint Johnson and son, and James Goff and son to Frederick Oklahoma.
The general assembly adjourned shaping fish and game law changes. Dove hunting is banned year round while open squirrel season runs July 1 to October 1 and November 10 to January 1. Quail and duck bag limits drop to fifteen daily with a 45 total over three days. Waterfowl season runs September 1 to April 1. Restrictions on keeping quails by storage companies and individuals exist January 1 to November 10. Perpetual hook and line fishing is allowed statewide except Bass lake. Landowners may hunt on their property without a license. others must obtain a county clerk license, except in Marion county. Licenses cost $1, with one third of revenue used to stock game. Sale of state-caught fish prohibited. possession proofs determine origin. Only fish and game officers may seize nets. Deputies may be paid $75 monthly. Sale of private pond fish is legal with an affidavit of private-pond catch. a private pond is defined as ten acres or less on a landowner’s property.
Rushville K of P Ivy Lodge No 27 asks that the ground floor of their South Morgan street building be vacated by the Republican company to remodel and expand. The first floor will become a reading room gymnasium banquet hall and reception room for 287 members. The lodge owns the building in debt free and will use surplus to provide a modern home for brothers without one. Construction to begin once possession is secured.

Edwin Brannon son of Mr and Mrs James Brannon was struck by a Big Four switch engine as it backed west at the passenger station. The boy, a sandwich peddler, crawled from under the cowcatcher with a broken arm and minor scalp wounds, amid a shocked crowd. He had just finished canvassing passenger train number four when he stepped onto the main track. The engine did not stop until the boy lay beneath it.
The Sisters of the Catholic church and Catholic school pupils visited Rev. Father Fichter at his home on Friday afternoon to celebrate the tenth anniversary of his pastorate. They presented he bouquets of flowers and other offerings, and a program of exercises was held with valued appreciation for his service.

Charles Zoller Jr celebrated his seventy first birthday with a dinner at his East Main Street home for his children and grandchildren. A long time local resident and successful businessman, he has retired from active work and enjoys his later years in good health and contentment.
About sixty applicants sat for the county teachers examination in this city last Saturday week. Thirty failed to pass arithmetic, the required minimum being seventy five percent, so only a small percent will receive a one year license from the county superintendent.
