Veteran Puntenney Laid to Rest in Rushville Funeral
George H. Puntenney, born March 26, 1832, buried in Rushville after a funeral led by Rev. A W Jamieson. He served three years in the Civil War with Company K, 37th Indiana Volunteers, later became Rushville mayor, then Jacksonian editor and owner until 1898. Survived by widow Mary Josephine Ross, daughter Mrs Harry Kramer, son George Puntenney Jr, and sister Sarepta Cochran.

Judge Frank Israel died at his Benkleman home on June 2 aged seventy years five months and sixteen days. He was born in Greensburg and learned printing at THE STANDARD in Ottumwa before moving to Benkleman in 1885. He served as county judge and postmaster before resigning. survived by a widow six sons three daughters two sisters and five brothers. Funeral held in M E church with Masonic burial last Saturday.

Fire destroys bus barn and livery stables in Rushville
A major blaze at Rushville's bus barn owned by Ed Caldwell wiped out nine horses three buses and other vehicles valued at about 5000 with 1200 insured. The adjacent Davis Brothers livery stable suffered a 7000 loss with 3000 insured including six horses six cabs and the building. Two suspicious men were seen near the premises by Mrs. Lucinda Caldwell who lives across the street.
