Director Weston Noble expanded Luther College Choir personnel for 1959-60 welcoming freshmen Darlyl Smith and Jeanette Wirth or Greene. The choir opens the year with a Homecoming concert on October 11 and will perform at local churches before a January Midwest concert tour. Luther College is a four year Christian liberal arts school of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the largest private coeducational college in Iowa.
Bruce Fischer age 12, son of Mr and Mrs R V Fischer, suffered a cracked bone in his right arm while scrimmaging with the junior high squad at home. His arm was placed in a cast after a local doctor determined the injury. Paul Hamilton Jr age 13, son of Mr and Mrs Paul Hamilton, also injured his right hand requiring several stitches, ending his season.
In Mayor Cecil Starkweather's court last week four residents were fined. Alvin Nolte of Ackley paid 25 dollars plus 3.50 costs for speeding. Howard Kliven of Mason City, arrested September 22, paid 25 dollars plus 3.50 costs for intoxication after appearing September 26. Herman Ober of Mason City charged with speeding paid 15 dollars plus 3.50 costs after appearing September 24. Cliff Crane of Greene, picked up September 19, charged with failure to control, paid 25 dollars plus 3.50 costs.
Mr and Mrs Vern Willey attended church services at the E U B Church in Dumont on Sunday. Their granddaughter Jill Renee daughter of Mr and Mrs James Uhlenhopp was baptized during the services. The Willeys were dinner guests at the Uhlenhopp home.
The Butler County Institute occurs Wednesday October 7 1959 at Greene Community School with Dr Dwight Curtis ISU Education head delivering the morning keynote on Upgrading our Teaching in the Public Schools. LS TC consultants join afternoon subject groups focusing on Language Arts Science Mathematics Social Science Physical Education and Industrial Arts. All Butler County schools will be closed so teachers may attend.
A Social Security Administration representative will visit Allison at the Court House on October 5 and 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon to assist filing for federal old age survivors and disability insurance benefits, social security cards, and employer identification numbers. Harold W. Allan, patient at Mercy Hospital Mason City after an accident near Rockwell, has been discharged and is recuperating at home.
Rock Island Lines will run football special trains from Manly to Iowa City for Northwestern October 3rd Michigan State Homecoming October 10th Minnesota Dad's Day November 7th and Notre Dame November 21st. Trains depart Greene at 7 48 a m and reach the stadium by 11 30 a m. Return trips depart after games and arrive back in Greene around 7 50 p m. Reservations available at the local depot.
Mr and Mrs Ronald Bloom of Odebolt are the parents of a son born Saturday morning in a hospital at Ida Grove. The baby weighed 7 pounds 6 ounces. Mrs Bloom is the former Barbara Kyle, daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter Kyle.
The Junior High Rambler football team defeated Rudd Junior High 35 to 0 last Wednesday afternoon. Greene rushed for 172 yards and 68 through the air for 242 total. Myers started at quarterback with injuries to Devies and Hamilton, while Bramer scored two 15 yard TD catches from Myers. Kingery, Albrecht, and Weichers added TDs and Kingery, Poppe, Albrecht and Wharton kicked extra points.
Mr and Mrs Howard Burroughs have purchased the Stevens Building on Traer Street in the business district from Mrs L P Stevens Genevieve DuJon chay and Harold Stevens The building is being remodeled The first floor is occupied by Marts Shoe Shop and the Greene Locker Service
The annual State School of Instruction for County Officers will be held in Des Moines on Thursday, Friday and Saturday October 1, 2 and 3. Butler County Courthouse will close on Friday and Saturday so County Officers and Deputies may attend the School of Instruction.
Greene High School outlines a full Homecoming week with a snake dance pep rally bonfire and cheers Thursday at 6 45 pm downtown Greene followed by a Homecoming parade Friday at 2 30 starting north of the school and ending near Traer Street. The Friday 8 pm Homecoming game vs Nora Springs Eagles features queen candidates senior girls named by the student body and a 10 pm Homecoming dance with Luther College students.
Henry Brinkman, 65, died suddenly about 1:00 this morning at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City following a heart attack. Williams Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services are pending.
H. D. Teeters was admitted to the Methodist Hospital in Rochester Minnesota for treatment of a goiter last Thursday.
Veterans of Foreign Wars led a Buddy Poppy Day sale on Saturday September 26 with VFW commander Florian Rutz directing and Mrs Rutz assisting. Girl Scouts in grades five and six canvassed door to door and sold poppies on the streets. Names of participants include Peggy Willey Pamela Hamilton Flora Stubbe Carolyn Kehoe Sue Williams Bonnie Siemens Susan Clikeman Sally Clikeman Diane Stewart and Terrie Rutz. A total of 580 was raised for veteran aid and welfare including support for orphans at the VFW national home and for funeral and burial needs of ex servicemen.

Mrs. Helen Brown fractured her left hip in a fall at the Clark Nursing Home Sunday evening September 20. She was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City where she underwent surgery.

Story Hour at Greene Public Library will resume Saturday October 3 from 1 15 to 2 00 p m. Children four years and older are invited to attend using the side entrance. Mrs Robert Fischer in charge says stories poems and phonograph records will be featured.
Mr and Mrs Larry Frerichs of Olympia Washington announce the birth of their son Brad Lee on September 26. The baby weighed 8 pounds 11 ounces at birth. Mrs Frerichs is Lavone Landers daughter of Mr and Mrs Alvin Landers.

Guy Clikeman was transported to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City for treatment with medical staff providing ongoing care and monitoring for his condition.
Paul Nicklaus of Mason City was arrested in Parkersburg on Friday September 25 by Deputy Marvin Barth for false drawing and uttering checks over 20 dollars. He faced arraignment in Ralph McCready's court in Allison with bond set at 300 dollars. A 100 dollar bond was posted for a separate Mason City warrant. Others include Warren LeRoy Martin 22 and Daniel Dean Ricks 16 of New Providence arrested near Parkersburg September 26 on license suspension and unauthorised driver charges, arraigned in Parkersburg Mayor's Court with 350 dollar bonds. Martin held in county jail awaiting bond. Ricks released to parents. Max Martin Roll 52 of Eldora arrested near Kesley September 27 for operating while intoxicated, bond 350 dollars, awaiting next term in Allison. Thomas Newton of Waterloo arrested September 28 on false drawing and uttering checks, pleaded guilty and sentenced to 15 days in county jail.
