Round Grove Golf and Country Club hosts a bridge and Soo tournament on Monday October 1 with a 12 30 luncheon. Reservations due by September 27 through Mrs Walter Wunsch or Mrs Francis Knapp. A charge applies and guests are welcome.

The Greene Iowa City Council met in special session on September 21 1973 to amend two ordinances. Ordinance 286 caps load limits on the Traer Street bridge over the Shellrock River, and Ordinance 281 adds eligibility standards for Fire Department members. The meeting adjourned after passage and publication steps.
Ordinance 280 amends Chapter 262 to replace Chapter 282 in Greene Iowa. It sets a maximum gross weight of three tons for any vehicle crossing the river bridge on Traer Street. The measure becomes effective after passage and publication and is approved by the city official.
Plans complete for the Fall Festival and Bazaar at the United Methodist Church on Saturday September 29. Marble Rock ladies will be at the church from 10 am to 2 pm and will offer meals for eat in or take home, including homemade donuts.
Darlene Steck wins the Ladies City Golf Tourney with a 47, followed by Cleo Mead 48 and LeAnn McRoberts 48 among top ladies. Finalists in flights include Marge Martzahn 52 Carol Shultz 52 Dawn Cheney 52 in first flight. Kay Nordmeyer 56 Luella Miller 56 Susan Marsh 57 in second. Lois McBurney 61 Arlo Christensen 62 and Mary Taylor 4 in third. Prizes go to McRoberts for longest drive on hole 1 Esther Backer for longest putt on hole 9 and Martzahn closest to the cup on hole 7.
Greene Jr High football lost a close opener to Nora Springs 14 to 12. Kevin Freeseman rushed 70 yards for Greene’s early TD after blocks by Brinkman Brnkman and Moser. Denny Delp passed for 81 yards completing all seven receptions to Jeff Eimers. Final remarks note miscues but standout defensive play and a remaining schedule.

Patrice Abell the first Floyd County 4-H member to attend Ak-Sar-Ben in Omaha shows her Hereford on Monday the 24th and Angus on Wednesday the 26th, both earning purple ribbons at Floyd County Fair Aug 1. She plans to attend the Ak-Sar-Ben banquet Wednesday evening before returning home and calls the Saturday departure a great challenge and good experience. The beef sale is Thursday the 27th. Abell, daughter of the Wm Abells, has eight years in 4-H and recently took part in a Citizenship Short Course in Washington DC and a week on the Out-of-State Exchange in northern Minnesota.
George Kielman Jr. of Rockford adopts 3 year old Korean orphan Tracy who arrived Friday night in Minneapolis to meet his family. The Kielmans, parents of five other children, visited Greene Saturday at their mother Tillie Kielman's home and at Melvo Majewski and Otto Kielman residences.
The Goodwill truck will be in Greene on Tuesday October 9 to collect discarded clothing toys shoes and small household articles for Goodwill Industries. Bring items to United Methodist Church basement by Monday the day before. These items are used by handicapped workers as they work to help themselves.
Greene Ramblers were shut out 18-0 as 9 turnovers, 8 fumbles, and 1 interception doomed the offense. Nora Springs ran 77 plays for 177 yards while Greene totaled 96 yards. Rich Allison had an interception, and Rockwell Swaledale visits Friday in the first varsity year.

Robert Obermeier and wife announce the birth of a son Kendall Eugene on Monday at Floyd Coremor al Hospital. The newborn weighs 7 pounds 6 ounces and has two brothers Kevin and 20 months old and a sister Kimberly aged 3. Grandparents Otto Kielman and Mrs Waldo Rutledge. Cedar Rapids.
Otto Kielman returned home after 11 days as a medical patient at Charles City hospital. Anke Adams, son of M and W Bill Adams, underwent an emergency appendectomy at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City, room 344. Greene recorded heavy rainfall with 43 inches Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, readings at noon. other gauges reported up to 2.0 inches.
A meeting to form the Greene Historical Society is set for Thursday October 4 at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall. The effort aligns with Greene’s centennial in 1978 and a potential museum site has been volunteered.
