California Accident Fetal to R Kingery
A sailor, Robert Kingery from Greene Iowa, was fatally injured when a car struck a bridge abutment on old U S 101 north of Jimmy Durante Boulevard in Del Mar California on Friday August 26. Kingery 19 died at Scripps Memorial Hospital after being ejected from the vehicle. Calef and Hyde, both 19 and aboard Canberra, suffered serious injuries and were treated at a Del Mar Naval Hospital. Burial announced for Monday August 29 at Brethren church in Greene Rose Hill Cemetery.

Fire destroys Marzen's barn near Greene
Fire of undetermined origin gutted the J. Ed win Marzen farm barn three miles northeast of Greene Sunday. Discovered about 6:00 p.m., the Greene Fire Department kept flames from reaching other structures. The 40 by 20 foot barn held baled hay and grain, all loss. Insured value set at 7,500 dollars.
