Donald and Mrs Shultz announce a daughter Julia Ann born August 27 weighing 7 pounds 8 ounces at Cedar Valley Hospital. Ronald and Mrs Lauber report a daughter Rae Jean Ann born August 26 weighing 7 pounds 6 3/4 ounces at Waterloo area hospital.
Mrs. Ivan Osborne and her year old daughter Patricia left Waterloo by plane for Chicago and San Francisco then flew to Okinawa by military jet. She will spend two years there with her Air Force husband, who has served there for a year. Mrs. Osborne, former De lores Rover, lived in Sumter, S C, and visited her parents before departing.
A Social Security Administration representative will visit Allison Town at the Court House on September 8 and 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon to assist with applications for federal old age survivor and disability benefits, and to issue account number cards and employer identification numbers. Harry Gibson arrived home Friday from the University Hospitals in Iowa City after undergoing major surgery on August 18.
Mrs Bondy Springer 76 of Arcadia California died Saturday night after a short heart illness. She was born Clara Powers in Powersville and married Bondy Springer in 1902. She survived by son Melvin and brother Leonard Powers. Rosary is Wednesday 8:00 p.m. at Hamilton's. funeral Thursday 9:30 a.m. at St Marys Church. Burial in St Marys Cemetery. Hamilton's in charge.
Donald E. Morey, son of Mr and Mrs Lester Morey of Charles City and formerly of Greene, arrived home August 15 for a furlough with his family and grandparents in Greene. He has been promoted to Private First Class and is stationed with the Marines in San Diego, California.
Mrs Augusta Fick was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on Monday for treatment.
Justice Court records show Dennis Carney of Cedar Falls fined $5 plus $0.84 costs for a stop sign violation after Aug 26. Arnold Schindler of Des Moines fined $15 for speeding 40 in a 20 zone, $5 for speeding 78 daytime, plus $4 costs after Aug 30. Chester Neely of Sabin, Texas, fined $10 plus $4 costs for improper passing after Aug 28.
Mrs M Menken was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on Monday for surgery expected this morning Wednesday.

The Winnebago Council reports 854 Scouts and Explorers attended six weeks at the New Winnebago Council Scout Reservation in Marble Rock, a 23 percent rise over prior camps. Sixty two troops sent boys. 200 merit badges earned, 140 in aquatic fields. 400 parents attended a Wednesday campfire. pool facilities aided progress. year-round programs include Philmont trips and district camporees.

A 1151 foot boom on a corn sprayer swung loose from its mount and struck 19 year old John Hauser as he rode his bicycle three miles north of Greene on Highway 14 at 10 45 am Monday. Hauser received treatment for a forehead cut at a Greene physician's office. Driver Charles E Teeple 23 Greene owned the sprayer pulling truck. no damage to the truck from Klassi Hardware Greene. The boom struck a Rockford car windshield causing about $80 in damage. Deputy Sheriff L L Lane investigated. Teeple did not realize the mishap at the time.

Earl Keen of Greene was taken to the Isolation Ward at University Hospital in Iowa City on Monday morning. His illness to date has not been diagnosed.
The pheasant, quail and partridge seasons will open Friday November 6 and close a day earlier than planned due to requests by the Department of Public Safety. Hazard reduction on crowded highways was the rationale as fans travel to Iowa City and Ames for campus games and other events statewide.
The September 1959 term of the District Court of Butler County will convene on September 28, 1959 at Allison with Hon. William P. Butler of Major City presiding. Trial jurors have been drawn and are to report October 5, 1959 at 10:00 a.m. The township juror lists include Albion Arthur Collings and others across Beaver, Butler, Coldwater, Dayton, Jackson, Madison, Monroe, Pittsford, Ripley, Shell Rock, Washington and West Point townships.
Salsbury's of Charles City defeated Powersville 6 to 1 at Lions Field to capture the Brewers Softball tournament. John Deere beat Gabe & Hamilton 3 to 1 for consolation as John Deere’s Fisher allowed one hit. Nordmeyer and Fraschi handled pitching duties in varying matchups through the semi finals and finals.
A new fire truck costing about $15,000 was purchased to serve rural calls with 1000 gallons of water and assorted gear. It serves Coldwater Dayton Pleasant Grove and part of Fremont with housing and manpower in exchange. Greene also operates two other fire trucks, retiring the older unit.
Arthur Lindell Sr. went home Monday afternoon from Cedar Valley Hospital where he had undergone surgery last week, marking a recovery step after the procedure.
Greene stores close Labor Day observance with no activity Monday September 7. Greene Community School and St Marys Academy also shut. Classes resume on Tuesday as usual.
The search for four Floyd County men missing between Lake Elmo Minnesota and Ontario Canada has been called off. The group flew from Charles City municipal airport on August 21 and were last seen at Lake Elmo. Among the missing is William Schneider of Colwell, a former Greene resident married to Loretta DeMar. Their July 2 1938 wedding produced five children. Others missing are Fred W Wesner of near Bassett Leland Chester of Colwell and Lloyd Boofer of Elma. A public clinic for fans is planned next Monday night September 7 at 7 00 p m to showcase players and the development program. The event features a scrimmage, camera display, and free coffee and soft drinks for attendees. The squad practiced through hot humid weather, with backs quicker and specific players named among the standouts. The starters will be decided after the next scrimmage. All fans are invited.
The Greene Sportsman's Club hosts a Friday evening fish fry on September 4 at the local high school auditorium. Serving starts 6:30 with walleyes fries vegetables rolls ice cream and coffee or milk. Tickets are eat all you can and a prize drawing offers hundreds of articles from manufacturers wholesalers and local merchants. Claire Curtis says a few tickets remain.
Waterloo District Conference of The Methodist Church will meet in Rockford on September 8 with 56 churches from 11 counties represented. Miss Elizabeth M. Lee of New York, secretary for refugee resettlement, will be principal morning speaker. Howard H. Palmer will preside as sessions cover refugee issues and denominational programs. Churches from Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Cerro Gordo, Chickasaw, Floyd, Franklin, Howard, Mitchell and Worth counties attend.
Eleanor L Pooley is named senior circulation librarian at Douglass College women's division of New Jersey's State University at New Brunswick. She holds a Rutgers library science master's work and a Coe College bachelor's degree, with a career spanning Iowa Iowa and federal service including the Army Administration School and OPS roles.
Sharon Neil of Greene and Mike Mabee of Seymour returned home Friday after five days in Wheaton Illinois for the National Rural Bible Crusade Convention representing Iowa as a team in the National Bible verse quotedown and finishing second. They earned the trip by winning the state quote down in June with Sharon at Alli mee Church. Their party included Mrs Hoksbergen Des Moines and Marian Kammelshue Waterloo along with coaches Camelia Olsen Extra and Morman Adamson Seymour.
Brownies To Meet The Brownies will begin holding meetings next Tuesday after school in City Hall. All girls in Ind 3rd or 4th grade are invited to attend and become members.
