The Greene High School Student Council senior members attended the fifteenth annual State Conference in Ames on Monday. More than 1,000 students and sponsors participated. Social Security Agent to Visit Allison Court House

A representative of the Social Security Administration District office in Waterloo will be in Allison at the Court House on November 3 and 17 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon to help people file applications for federal old age survivors or disability insurance benefits original and duplicate social security account number cards and employer identification numbers. William Warfield set for Wartburg Artist Series

William Warfield, acclaimed baritone, will appear November 5 at 8:00 p.m. in Wartburg College chapel auditorium as part of the Artist Series. He recently starred in Porgy and Bess at City Center and Lewisohn Stadium, worked with Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic, and is known for Show Boat and Green Pastures on television.

Court Action On Speeding and Sign Violations

Daryl S. Kerehner of Rudd was charged with speeding and fined $15 plus $4 costs. Cecil K. Little of Grundy Center and Weimer Volkers of Hampton were each charged with stop sign violations, paying $5 fines and $4 costs.

D. C. Marsh Dies Suddenly at 73

D. C. Marsh, 73, died Tuesday afternoon from a heart attack. Survived by daughter Mrs. Lawrence Paplow and son Ralph Marsh of Greene, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Bruce Marsh Returns From Furlough To Navy Duties

Petty Officer Third Class Bruce Marsh ended a 10 day visit with his parents Mr and Mrs Ralph Marsh and the family. He was driven to Sioux Falls and flew to San Diego, then starts an Alaska tour on November 7 for six months under Navy orders.

Ninth Grade Ramblers Defeat Rudd in 26 to 7 Victory

The ninth grade Ramblers won their third straight game with a 26 to 7 victory over Rudd last Wednesday afternoon. Roger Weichers scored two rushing touchdowns from 5 and 2 yards, while Steve Clapham added runs of 60 and 3 yards. Rudd's Brando returned a 60 yard TD. The next game is set for Monday, October 30 in Clarksville.

Hospital Proposal Passed By Sixty Nine Percent

Floyd County voters approved the hospital proposal in a Tuesday election, with 3,788 voting yes and 1,698 no out of 5,486 voters. The measure cleared the 23 majority threshold by about 6.3 percentage points.

Iowa civil defense chief resigns amid budget cuts

Iowa civil defense director C E Ben Fowler has offered to resign after nine years in office saying survival matters more than any faction. His departure follows Gov Erbe and Legislature cutting the program’s budget by nearly 30 percent. Fowler questioned the state’s defense readiness while noting 140000 civil defense pamphlets distributed since the Berlin crisis. The report also notes James A Van Allen receiving the Ellett Cresson medal for discovering the earth’s radiation belts. Interstate highways add 15 miles, bringing total to 204 miles in operation across No 29 No 80 and No 35 corridors.

Greene FFA honors five with honorary memberships

At a special meeting at Greene High School on October 18 Greene Chapter of Future Farmers of America awarded honorary memberships to five Greene Community members. Bronze plaques went to Aaron Jewell for livestock contribution, John and Loren McRoberts for shop use and loan of machinery, Wayne Fischer for coverage of chapter work, and R E Wagoner for sponsoring the group for seven years.
