Burroughs, a WWII Army veteran, served as company check trainee and separation counselor. Since 1946 he has traded stocks and funds, twice served as Greene mayor, held GOP roles for years, managed a 277 acre farm, and supported American Legion, Boy Scouts, and Red Cross work. He and wife Mary Pooley have seven children. a son Paul died in an Air Force plane crash in South America on Aug. 18. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, astronomy, photography, and stamp and coin collecting.

Senior Girl Scouts to Pick Up Newspapers
The Senior Girl Scouts will pick up newspapers for the paper drive this Saturday morning October 12 starting at 10 AM. Please have them at the curb prior to this time and omit magazines. Rural residents may leave papers at the Pooley Building behind Rath's Buying Station Saturday morning October 17. Chat-A-While Chub tour departs Lutheran Church at 9 AM.

Evelyn DeVries rites held at Dumont Reformed Church
Services for Mrs. Edwin Evelyn DeVries aged 46 who died of an apparent heart attack in Greene were held Tuesday October 1 at the Dumont Reformed Church with burial at Dumont Cemetery. Survivors include her husband Edwin four daughters her mother four sisters and two brothers. Vogel Funeral Home of Dumont arranged the services.
