The Greene Future Farmers of America dairy judging team earned a silver medal at the State Dairy Judging contest in Waterloo on Saturday. Members were Harlan Martzahn, Roger Wells, and Roger Shultz, with sponsor Richard Wagoner, vocational agriculture instructor.

Butler County boosts TB research with $300,000 grant

Burton Sprole, president of the Butler County Tuberculosis and Health Association, announced a total this year of $300,000 for tuberculosis and respiratory disease research in Iowa. Funds go to four State University of Iowa projects and a Des Moines continuation study. County Christmas Seal workers will get seal supplies at Hotel Allison meeting on Tuesday evening, October 24.

Rock Island to Run Football Trains

The Rock Island Railroad will operate special trains to Iowa City football games starting from Manly and stopping at towns along the line including Waterloo. Trains depart Greene at TARalom and return to Greene the same day. Runs on October 21 November 11 and November 25.

Mrs. Charles F. Miller of Shell Rock died Monday at Mercy Hospital in Waverly after a cancer illness. Born July 23, 1918 in Aredale LaVon Goodsell, she married Charles F. Miller on December 30, 1940. Survived by husband, daughter Marilyn Clark, son Marvin, mother Mrs. V. E. Sellers, sister Mrs. Dean Davis. Funeral at 2:00 PM in Shell Rock Methodist Church with burial in Shell Rock cemetery.

Gross Had Perfect Attendance Record in Congress

Rep H R Gross of Waterloo posted a perfect attendance in this session with 231 votes and quorum calls answered. It marks his third straight year with no absences, placing his attendance among the best in the House and contributing to a 97.1 percent overall attendance across 13 years. Unofficial reports say only about 20 members achieved perfect records this year.

Miller farm death in Greene due to PTO accident

Fredrick William Miller 62 of a farm eight and one half miles southwest of Greene was killed Monday morning when caught in a power take off while grinding feed. Born December 17 1898 near Allison, he married Mattie Lee Mason in 1926 and had five children. Survived by wife, five children, three brothers, three sisters, and ten grandchildren. Shatzer Approved as Instructor in University of Maryland

Captain Dale Shatzer of the United States Marine Corps, son of Mr and Mrs Clarence Shatzer, is approved as an instructor in the Business Administration Department of the Far East Division of the University of Maryland. Investors Mutual Declares Dividend 1961 Fourth Quarter

The board of Investors Mutual Inc. has declared a quarterly dividend of 0.26 per share from investment income and a 0.16 per share distribution from realized security profits. The total 0.42 per share is payable September 29 to holders of record September 28, 1961. This marks the fund’s 84th consecutive quarterly dividend. The fund has about 157.5 million shares outstanding, up from 148.8 million.
