Dollar A Year Tractor Aids New Scout Camp Plan

A dollar a year Oliver Super 55 Diesel tractor is donated to the Winnebago Council Iowa Boy Scouts for a new 300 acre camp near Marble Rock. Leased from Oliver by the council for $1 annually, with trade-in on a newer model later, the rig will aid road work and moving gear across camp areas inaccessible by truck. The Van-Web carrier is providing a hydraulic lift carry-all. The camp aims to open for regular camping in summer 1959 for units from nine counties.

Senior Students Entertained Freshmen at All School Party

Senior students hosted freshmen at a Saturday night party in the school lunch room. Larry Gabe and Sandra Eckoff won queen and prize for funniest costumes from initiation held earlier in the week. Records provided music with Mr. Bachman as master of ceremonies. Miss Landsgaard and Mrs. Boller sponsored the event.

Mae Hamilton Dies in Red Deer Alberta Canada

Mrs Mae Hamilton died Saturday at her Red Deer Alberta home after fifty years in the province. A native of Butler County she left for Canada long ago and passed away at her residence. Her sisters Mrs Esther Davis and Mrs Amy Gray received the telegram announcing her death.

Junior High Ramblers Tie Nashua 13 13 In Football

The Junior High Ramblers and Nashua played to a 13 to 13 tie. Green rushed for 91 yards and 20 receiving, Wunsch returned a Nashua interception 60 yards and kicked the extra point. A late 10 yard fourth down pass to Gabe Green set up a potential go ahead score, but an offside nullified the point. The Ramblers travel to Riceville next.

Bert M. Marsh died September 26 at 1 40 PM after a week ill in Charles City hospital. He was 75 years 6 months 3 days old. A longtime resident, he lived in Bruning Nebraska since 1928. Story Hour to Begin Saturday at Greene Public Library

The first Story Hour of the fall season is set for Saturday October 5 at Greene Public Library from 1 15 to 2 00 p m. Children four years old and older may attend entering by the side door. Mrs Robert Fischer hosts with stories poems and records. The hour repeats each Saturday at the library.

Rev Remboldt Dies in Chicago Pastored Greene and Chicago churches

The Rev Carl Sembolat of Chicago Illinois died August 29 after a nine month illness. He served as pastor at St Peter's Lutheran Church in Greene for several years until 1923. He then led Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicago until retirement on July 1 this year.

Atoms For Peace Exhibit Coming To Greene County

The U S Atomic Energy Commission presents an Atoms For Peace exhibit in Greene with an animated panel showing how a nuclear reactor produces steam and electricity. Local sponsors include the Greene Jaycees with national backing from the National University Extension Association and the National Junior Chamber of Commerce. The exhibit runs October 22 from noon to 8 pm near Interstate Power Company with free admission.

Dr William J. Petersen announces 126 people elected to the State Historical Society of Iowa in September. Dayton W. Mather was chosen from Greene. 121 come from 66 towns in 55 counties. Des Moines led with eight new members. many cities contributed several members, while 41 towns had one each.

A Des Moines Woltz Studio photographer will be in Greene at City Hall on Monday October 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. No appointment is needed. Patton Named New County Extension Director

William Patton has been chosen by the Butler County Agricultural Extension Council to become Extension Director effective October 1, following Ivan Wikner's resignation for graduate study in agronomy at Iowa State College. Patton, a Winneshiek County youth assistant, is a Manchester High School and Iowa State College graduate with a Farm Operation and Rural Education major. He served as a U S Air Force Ammunition Officer in Korea before returning to Winneshiek County as Extension Youth Assistant. He and his wife Janice with their two children will reside in Allison.

Greene Bureau Dairy judging team led by David Butterbrod Sherman Needham and Dennis Ott earned a silver rating at the State Dairy Judging Contest held at Waterloo Dairy Cattle Congress grounds on Saturday. Butlers Attend Dedication Service At Mason City Church

Rev and Mrs G F Butler attended the dedication services for the new First Presbyterian Church in Mason City on Sunday morning. Two services were held at 9:45 and 11:00. Rev Butler, pastor of Greene First Presbyterian, acted as moderator of Presbytery. Rev George A Buttrick, former pastor of Fifth Avenue Presbyterian in New York City and now at Harvard, delivered the sermon.
