The editor notes forecasts of a harsh winter may repeat after a mild season and humorously suggests animals might guide weather. It also praises Joyce, a former society editor, who married last Saturday night and now becomes Mrs Marry Kampman.
Mr and Mrs Robert Ramsdell are parents to a daughter born Monday evening November 18 at Mercy Hospital Cedar Rapids. The infant weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Kenneth Stewart of Houston Texas and Mr and Mrs Clayton Ramsdell of Cedar Rapids. Great grandparents are Mr and Mrs Chris Stewart of Greene and Mr and Mrs Floyd Durey of Hawkeye.
Ewing Miller, son of Mrs. Gladys Miller, received the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service with the 827th Airborne Infantry, 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam from February to August 1968. He is now a student at Drake University in Des Moines.
Auxiliary members place Butter-Nut labels in Morey’s Food Market B and W Fine Foods and Dralle’s Department Store. Labels must be collected by December 13 for dispatch to the Butter-Nut Christmas Club in Omaha Nebraska, which sends toys to orphanages.

Returned to the states Marine Sgt Ronald E Stewart arrived Septem ber 7th after 13 months in Vietnam. He is stationed at the Marine Air Base in Beaufort South Carolina. Ronald is a 1965 Greene Community School graduate residing at Monson's Mobil Home Estates Lot No 37 Burton South Carolina 29904.
Greene area residents may earn high school credits toward a diploma via North Iowa Area Community College Adult Education Division. About 45 people have used the service over four years, with courses now offered through Mason City High School and credits transferred locally. GED prep classes are held in Hampton, Northwood, and Mason City, while Basic Adult courses expanded to eight communities for students below ninth grade.
Richard Siemens of Greene High School is named to the 1968 WMT Collegiate Honor Roll, one of 42 high school players honored from 334 nominees across 120 schools. The show, hosted by Tait Cummins, airs December 1 at noon on Channel 2 and features Ted Lawrence and four former Jefferson High School stars now Iowa Hawkeye football players.
Nashua wrestlers pinned four Greene opponents to win 30-16. Listed results show Nashua gains with pins by B Trees D Trees Stuntz and Meek, while several matches end in decisions or draws. The Nashua B squad overwhelmed Greene with forfeit wins, though two local boys topped a Nashua B wrestler.
Edward Heuer was injured in a farm accident at his home south of Greene last Friday morning while moving a corn drying bin. He was taken to Waverly Hospital for treatment and later released.
Four Greene High School Band students Lyle Williamson Barbara Hanson Wendy Martzahn and Debra Martzahn have been chosen for the All State Band and Orchestra concert during Thanksgiving. They will rehearse in Des Moines and perform at KRNT Theatre November 30 with a TV tape later. 17 Greene students tried out facing schools of all sizes.
Lt. Clare Grendler has returned to Greene after active duty with the U S Navy. He served aboard the aircraft carrier U S S Randolph as navigator and Air Intercept Controller in the Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 121, with duty along European coasts and U S east and south coasts. He, his wife Sally, and sons Christopher and Jeffrey visited his parents Mr and Mrs August Grendler and now reside in Waverly where he works for the Carnation Company.

Funeral services were held Saturday for Herbert Hugh Hillegas aged 72 who died November 20 in Floyd County Memorial Hospital Charles City. Born March 1 1896 in New Buena Vista Pennsylvania he was WWI veteran and worked in general contracting. Survivors include wife Ellen son Robert Greene daughter Lucy Bolhuis Cedar Falls brother Lee Hillegas Marengo Illinois and six grandchildren. Service 1:30 p.m. Reid's Funeral Chapel Greene officiated by Rev Wayne Gjerde. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery.

High school senior girls will take the Betty Crocker Homemaking test on December 3 in a nationwide program reaching over 500000 students from about 15000 high schools. State winners receive 1500 dollars, with four national prizes from 5000 to 2000 dollars, plus school runners up get 500 dollars and a silver charm from General Mills. A spring trip to Colonial Williamsburg and Washington, D. C. honors the state winners and school advisers, with national winners announced at a Williamsburg dinner.
Mr and Mrs Garold Lorenzen of Storm Lake are the parents of Daniel Keith born November 16. Mrs Lorenzen is formerly Sharon Ruffridge. Danny is welcomed home by brother Bret age 4 and sister Cindy age 2.
Secretary of Agriculture Orville L Freeman announced 235 new designated areas in 31 states to start the Food Stamp Program this fiscal year. Counties including Mills Monroe Muscatine Page Poweshiek Webster Worth in Iowa will gain access, with about 280,000 low income people benefiting for the first time. The expansion raises total areas in 43 states and DC to about 1,550, aiding over 3 million people with food stamps and 3.5 million with USDA donated foods. Federal expenditures will be monitored to consider further designations as requests arrive. The program lets eligible families boost purchasing power by exchanging food money for federal coupons usable in authorized outlets.
J R Coupal Jr announced November 19 the resignation of Theo dore H Bauer 35 2531 Pierce Ames as chief accountant for the Iowa State Highway Commission. Bauer leaves to join the state controller's office after heading the accounting department since its 1961 reorganization following prior work at the General Accounting Office in Washington.
Ramblers and Ramblerettes faced Tripoli last Friday night with the Ramblerettes losing 67 to 53 after a tight 32-32 halftime. Glenda Matthais led Tripoli with 27 points while Mary Rattler scored 28 for the Ramblerettes, and Greene dealt with foul trouble as the host team trailed by 6 entering the final period. The Ramblers opened the season with a 47-29 win over Tripoli as Greene's squad showed early raggedness but strong defensive effort, and the team will begin conference play at Nashua next Tuesday, December 3.

The Mason City Chamber of Commerce sponsors this bus trip with about 100 participants staying at the Pick Congress Hotel.

Iowa State University winter quarter Farm Operator's Short Course is being held off campus in Mason City starting December 3. Farmers can attend one day a week for six hours over 12 weeks at the Holiday Inn. Eighteen hours will cover farm management and marketing, livestock production, agricultural engineering, and soil and crop management. Enrollment through County Extension offices.
