Seven Greene Rambler players honored on the Corn Bowl Conference squad led by Rich Siemens and Randy Majewski on offense. Jim Shultz Wendell Stuntz named as backs with Siemens as end and Majewski as tackle. Tom Rutz and Jim Meek highlighted on defense with multiple tackles and utility line positions. Lettermen listed for 1968 season include nine seniors.
The First Methodist and the First Presbyterian Churches of Greene sponsor a Community Thanksgiving Service at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday November 27 in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Wayne Gjerde will deliver the sermon and the Rev. Donald K. Welsh will lead worship.
The Greene Community Board of Education met Friday at 7 30 p m in a meeting adjourned from the Monday November 11 meeting Communications from nearby residents said there would be no objections to placing the bus maintenance shop at the southwest elementary site if adequate dust control is provided The board voted to rescind August 20 actions and build the new facilities at the southwest site of the elementary grounds.
Emmett Hanley reports the death of former Greene resident Mrs Katherine Grady Steil of Tulsa Oklahoma on Wednesday November 6 She taught in local rural schools for years and lived in Tulsa for about 20 years Survivors include son Grady of Tulsa two brothers Joe and Earl Grady of Ruthven one grandson and two great grandchildren.
The Recorder announces its annual Christmas Shopper edition next week with distribution to all in the trade territory. Ads must be in by Saturday November 23 and news by Monday November 25 to meet publication.
North Iowa 4-H members were named award recipients at the annual 4-H Award Night on Monday November 18 Clayton Garner presented the award with Judy Kingery Steve Hildrebrand Pat Ewald Dave Dolan Nick Bjelica Church Kolbet and Bill Vorhes among Greene Marble Rock participants Presiding over the program were Tom Ritter and Jane Shultz Assistants included Max Brandau Steve Hildebrand Alan Ploeger Jolene Kingery and Judy Kingery.
Iowa hunting fishing and trapping licenses will expire on December 31 in a calendar year cycle. The change, enacted by the General Assembly, aligns licenses with other records and eases administration and sales. Licenses for 1969 remain valid through December 31, 1969.

Mr and Mrs Duane Mather of Waterloo welcomed infant son Jeffrey Lynn on Thursday November 14 at Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo. The baby weighed 7 pounds 6 ounces. Jeffrey’s sister Suzanne stays with grandparents Eldred Mather and Russell Duncan in Greene.

North Iowa delegates from twelve counties gathered at the Hotel Hanford November 19 for the annual conference and council meeting. Mrs. Harry Alcorn served as general chairman as the theme Girl Scouts Speak for Themselves guided activities from morning registration to the opening flag ceremony led by council president Mrs. Vernora Rottler.
The Greene businesses and Post Office will close all day Thursday November 28 for Thanksgiving. Greene Community Schools will dismiss at 2:00 Wednesday November 27. Classes resume Monday December 2.
Aaron Jewell, chair of the Butler County Extension Council, announced the resignation of Mrs. Roberta Wiegmann Extension Home Economist. A Newton native and Iowa State University graduate, she joined the Butler County staff in October 1964 and will leave December 4 to devote full time to homemaking.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Haley of Pomona California welcomed a son named Shawn Michael born on a Saturday November 16 weighing 9 pounds 3 ounces. Grandparents are Harold Holzschuh Greene and William Haley San Dimas with great grandfather Hugo Holzschuh at Harris Rest Home Marble Rock.
Senior 4-H members will meet Monday night November 25 at 7 30 p m in Farm Bureau Auditorium Allison. The organizational session will elect officers and plan the year with a Sue Stauffer and Ken Hoodier slide presentation on their United Nations trip. Sponsors are Mr and Mrs Marvin Miller Bristow. Eligibility requires 15 by January 1 1969 or a high school sophomore.
The Winnebago Council will send 37 boys and three leaders to the Seventh National Jamboree at Farragut State Park Idaho July 16 to 22 1969. They depart Mason City July 12 by charter bus visiting Fort Peck Dam Glacier National Park Yellowstone en route and return July 25. Leaders include Richard Simpson Clarion W B Barnett Mason City and Gus O Mayfield Aplington.
Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church for Mrs. H G MacLeod 72 who died November 16 at Riverside Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City. Born Caroline Margaret Clark May 5 1896 in West River Nova Scotia she taught in Nova Scotia Ontario before marrying Dr. Hugh Gordon MacLeod on October 10 1928 in Sault Ste Marie Ontario. They lived in Greene where he practiced medicine 41 years. he died May 19 this year. She belonged to several groups including Ladies Embroidery Club P E C Greene Woman's Club and the American Legion Auxiliary and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Surviving daughters are Jeanette Watson Parkersburg Margaret Barnett Ames and Emily Willis Plainfield seven grandchildren and sister-in-law Janet MacLeod of San Francisco. Interment Rose Hill Cemetery. Reid's Funeral Chapel oversaw arrangements.
Federal Judge Henry N. Graven of Greene is recuperating after tumor removal at St. Marys Hospital Madison Wisconsin. The operation affected about one third of his lung. Judge and Mrs Graven will stay in Madison for several weeks for x ray treatments and observation. Mrs Graven is staying with Mr and Mrs Stanley Graven.
Ray Pugh announces sale of a talk recording to raise funds for Brian O'Donnell, Central College athlete injured October 12. Profits from the five dollar record go to his medical fund. order via Central Club, Des Moines.
Fire crews extinguished a blaze in a couch cushion of a bus converted into a camper parked on property owned by Mrs. Clarence Worley near the river. No major damage reported. Firefighters also investigated a Sunday 10:30 a.m. electrical outlet short at the Allen Warren home with no damage.
Greene Community School reports admission changes for athletic events to 50 cents for students and children and 1 dollar for adults. The Greene Ramblerettes opened with a 64 to 44 win over Denver and followed with a 75 to 44 victory against Rockwell Swaledale in nonconference play. Mary Rattler led scoring with 16 of 30 and 6 free throws, while Jane McRoberts and Melinda Drakle anchored the boards. The B squad and Denver’s reserves added to the night’s scoring, as Greene built leads of 17-10 and 31-21 and extended the margin late.
Relatives in Greene report that Mrs. Clair Cheney of San Diego California died Saturday November 16. A former Greene resident she is survived by former associates in the area. Mrs. Ben Broadstone remains in University Hospital in Iowa City after undergoing surgery.
Richard L. Reser son of Mr and Mrs Gene E Reser left Sunday for the Great Lakes Naval Base in Illinois. He enlisted in the Naval Reserve and is taking his basic training there.
Greene High School wrestling notes thirty eight grapplers reporting for practice. Ramblers host Nashua Friday November 22 in a rescheduled opener. Rambler squad coached by Bill Garner also plans a November 26 conference away match at Rockford.
National Farm City Week will be observed from Friday November 22 to Thursday November 28 announced by Kenneth E Hart chairman of the Butler County ASCS Committee. He said the ASCS family is glad to join in the honor to farmers and that Kiwanis Clubs co sponsor endorse the recognition for farmers. He added President Johnson has urged farmers organizations business groups labor unions civic associations youth and women’s clubs and all consumers to express public appreciation of the strong interests shared by rural and urban Americans.
Examinations for spray applicator permits in 1969 are set in Iowa locations. Iowa State University Extension Area Office Mason City Willowbrook Plaza on December 3 with 9:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Interstate Power Company West Union on December 4, and 4-H Auditorium Fort Dodge on March 21 with same hours.
