Debra Jensen wins the RAVE district contest as the top entrant. The event took place Monday with five contestants from Worth County present. Veterans and civic groups attended the proceedings at the bureau, recognizing Debra Jensen for her win.
Three Greene High School students appeared on KWWL TV Sunday evening quiz show Community Quiz. They faced three contestants from Mr Vernon High School with competitors including Tim O Brien and Tounne Senee representing other National Honor Score Schools.
Greene residents elected to four NIACC dorm floors with floor leaders serving on the Al-Dorm Council. Diane Miller and Kerry Grumley named intramural chair and another Greene student as floor officer. The NIACC Business Dept hosted a Nov 4 dinner seminar on what personnel managers expect from beginning office workers with speakers from Mave Clinic Rochester and Iowa Kemper Insurance.
The Butler County Board of Supervisors approved the appointment of Parker Schmitz of Allison to serve as Butler County Auditor starting January 1, 1978, to complete the unexpired term of retiring auditor Vernon Q Larsen.
The Blanket Sunday drive at St Peter's Lutheran Church on November 10 collects blankets to be sent via Lutheran World Relief to those in need. Volunteers welcome blankets by November 17. Wool blankets are available from Church World Service for $3.00, aiding donation efforts by the ALCW as they report 67 quilts made and 19 blankets purchased this year.
William Steere dies at Greene age 88 with services at St Peter's Lutheran Church in Greene and burial in North Wilmar Cemetery. Survived by wife Sophias Drogemuller and nine children, including William Jr and Leo, plus 31 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. He served on church councils and was a Greene Creamery director.
George J. Popes 69 died Tuesday at Floyd County Memorial Hospital Charles City. Funeral Friday at St Michael Catholic Church Nashua with burial in Roseville Cemetery. Survivors include wife three sons Robert Plainfield John Charles City Raymond Nashua daughter Mrs Shirley Logan Rochester Minn and brother Carl of
Brinkman family members will recount their goodwill tour at a Family Night. They toured recently and will show slides and display items collected during the trip in Rio de Janeiro, Australia and New Zealand, with notes on what they discarded.
Hospital notes report Voigts underwent undemivent surgery at Aen Memorial Hospital Waterloo on November 3. Marvin Barth Varth Sr of Achcson County was dismissed from Floyd Memorial Hospital after a stay there.
Several musicians formed Sat Neth and Shand dh Hivelizit Merny Nts Composed conver bruck. Brian Glasp group. The N owa Jazz Ensemble 9 performed new and old jazz works for band directors to learn music availability for high school groups. The South Town Jazz Ensemble, a 20 man North Iowa unit, has earned a strong reputation with recent appearances. Greene members include Calvin Schafer Mark Stephenson and Jeff Tower, who was named director.
A long list of seniors and juniors from St. Ansgar Nashua Riceville North Central and Rockford, including interior and linemen names such as Bob Reding Dennis Felper Jim Back Mark Diutsworth and Rick Koenigs with linebackers Dennis Smith and Paul Jen k, plus multiple seniors like Richison Hegland and Jim Deep Buck.
Marjorie Springer will observe her 101st birthday today at 1th St Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City. Her sister Mrs Lizzie Fox, who turns 94 on Sunday, lives at 120 Chatauqua Ave. A birthday cake was shared by Mrs Roy Henline. Separately Mel Gano reported a 42 inch parsnip, citing dry conditions. The Greene Postmaster announced a new unpaid mail policy effective November 17, with returns to sender and a possible small fee for tracing deliveries.
MAM Row Henline received word of the sudden death of her brother Ike Grusy of Eureka. The Henlines left Sar. to attend funeral services held there Monday.
Services for Lydia F Kepple 84 who died at St James Hospital Chicago were held at Chenoweth Son Funeral Home Nashua with burial Greenwood Cemetery She was predeceased by husband Guy and infant daughter Lucille She farmed in Nashua Marble Rock area Survivors include sons Claire Greene Clark Ionia one daughter Mrs Raymond Moline Chicago Heights Ill 10 grandchildren including Robert Kepple and Rita Barth and 21 great grandchildren
The Cub Scout Pack meeting will be held on Web., Nov. 20, at 7 30 p.m. in the Community Center.
The Woman's Club of Greene hosts its annual Fall Festival on Saturday November 16 at the Community Center starting 3 a.m. Public invited. Coffee and homemade rolls and donuts served all morning. noon meal served from 11 a.m. featuring chicken and noodles maid rites baked beans cole slaw potato salad tea and pie. Handicraft Club sells baked goods candy and a handmade quilt drawn for during the festival. Area artists display spinning weaving oil paintings wood crafts wood block prints and photos. A centennial display depicts Franklin Adams and Jefferson and a table offers handcrafted items for sale.
Handicraft members are reminded to turn in the quiz money and names and to bring baked goods or handicraft items to the Fall Festival on Saturday November 16.
The annual Girl Scout fund drive will begin November 15 as announced by fund drive chairman Gerald Stephen son. Parents and community volunteers will contact residents for donations before December 1.
