Paul N. Burroughs son of Mr and Mrs Clifford E Burroughs has been named an element leader with rank of cadet technical sergeant at the U S Air Force Academy in Colorado Cadet Burroughs chosen for leadership abilities and effectiveness ratings He is Greene Community School graduate class of 66 and will receive a B S degree and commission as Air Force second lieutenant on graduation
Lila Schnee returned home on Saturday from Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City after several days of treatment. Mrs. Lawrence Drake also came home Saturday from the same hospital after a several week stay as a patient.
Postmaster Robert Curtis cautions on early mailing to ensure delivery before Christmas. Surface parcels have different cutoff dates by destination including Far East Africa Near East Europe and South Central America. Air parcels require earlier deadlines with specific regions and gift card guidance.
Local businesses will distribute dressed turkeys and hams twice before Thanksgiving. The first drawing occurs Saturday November 18 and the final drawing on Wednesday November 25. Complete details and the cooperating merchants’ names will appear in an ad next week.
The Greene swimming pool project will accept bids January 14 1965. Funds came from Mrs W H Buchholz. A 260 by 260 foot lot behind the T M Cities Service Station was bought from Mr and Mrs Ernest Koester of Shell Rock. Pascal Paddock Co Oklahoma City drew plans and specs, viewable at Town Clerk Claire W Curtis’s office. The pool is slated to open by May 25 1965.

An open house will be held next Sunday afternoon November 15 from 1 to 6 pm at a Gold Medallion Home in Greene. The all electric home was built by S. D. Pooley Lumber Company and wired to Interstate Power Company specs. The home sits opposite Greene Elementary School. everyone is invited to tour.
Dean Martin Schmitt of Greene was charged with failure to have control of a vehicle. He paid a $10.00 fine and $4.00 costs in the State cases handled by J. P. Moffett's court.
Albert B. Mohnke sold the Mohnke Apartments to Mr. and Mrs. Orley Alden of Greene. The property has a history as a private home and hotel, once occupied by the Thorpe family and later run as a hotel by Hall and Kimbell before the Mohnkes converted it to bachelor and then family apartments after 1917.
In Charles City on Monday, Josephine Feyereisen was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital where she is receiving treatment.
An open house will be held Sunday afternoon November 15 from 2:00 to 8:00 at an IBC home in Allison two blocks south of the railroad on Main Street. Expected visitors can tour the new residence and speak with representatives about features and pricing.
The Ramblerettes opened their basketball season with a 68 to 61 win over host Plainfield on Saturday evening. The varsity led after a 17 to 15 first quarter and pulled away, with Bonnie Siemens Pam Drake and Janice Johnson keying rebounds. Lantzky led Plainfield with 16 for the visitors Greene outscored Plainfield in the second half to secure the win. The Ramblerette B squad trailed at halftime 19 to 9 and finished 36 to 25. Friday they travel to Rockford for two games.
Daniel Miller offers an auction at his farm near Rockford on Saturday November 14 at 11 00 a m. Emil Blaas conducts a farm sale south of Greene on Thursday November 18 at 12 00 noon. C F Prange acts as auctioneer for both events.

Victor Morey 46 died Wednesday evening November 4 at a Maywood California hospital after a lingering illness. Born in Greene he was the son of William and Laura Morey. Survived by wife three children at Nome Mary Lou Michael and David a son Keith Morey in Washington a daughter Mrs Marjorie Evans in Florida two brothers Lester of Charles City and Leonard of Greene and one sister Mrs Joan Pyatt. Funeral services were held Saturday in Maywood and burial Monday in the National Cemetery at San Diego.
Greene Ramblers edge Ackley Raiders 19 to 13 in a season finale at home. Voy led Ackley with steady gains while Greene answered with two Weichers Ramker scoring drives and key plays by Ott Stewart and Barnett. The win capped a strong conference performance as Ramblers earned the victory and coaches selected All-Conference players.
Bruce A. Mead of Greene Iowa has been appointed assistant information officer with the cadet rank of second lieutenant in the AFROTC detachment at Iowa State University Ames. He earned the post on academic and leadership merit as a Greene Community High School graduate and member of Scabbard and Blade. After completing AFROTC requirements he will be eligible for second lieutenant rank in the U S Air Force.

Mrs. Otto Kielman is a patient at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City after a Friday fall at her farm home. She slipped on hay, caught her foot in a wire, and broke two bones in her left ankle.
The 1964 Christmas Seal campaign is mailed to Butler County homes this week to fund tuberculosis and respiratory disease fight efforts. Key officers include M Burton Sprole as president and Mrs Kenneth Shear as vice president. Local chairmen Guild Greene and others lead seal sales and publicity in Allison, Greene, Clarksville, and adjacent townships.
The State Conservation Commission announces the statewide trapping season begins at noon on November 14 1964 with open areas including State Game Management Areas and Federal Wildlife Refuges Special regulations apply on these sites Permits are free from unit managers and harvest quotas will govern fur species The season on game areas opens November 27 1964 and ends with the corresponding statewide closing dates Mink muskrat badger skunk opossum beaver civet cat raccoon have fixed closing dates through February 28 1965 or January 31 1965 for muskrat depending on species.
Greene Sportsman Club members are asked to donate blood at Mercy Hospital Mason City to replace units used on Conservation Officer James Gregory. President Leo Wilson urges members to contact Bill Walker for scheduling, with possible group transportation. Donations run Monday to Friday 8 AM to 3 PM and Saturdays 8 AM to 11 AM. at least 33 pints needed.
