Mrs Dale Van Eman 64 of Parkersburg died at Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo after a several week illness. Thelma Blake daughter of William and Julia Blake born Greene January 17 1900. She moved to Parkersburg after marriage. Survived by husband one son Bruce Kalamazoo Michigan a daughter Mrs H E Leach Omaha Nebraska and several grandchildren. Funeral service Congregational Church Parkersburg Saturday May 11 burial Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr and Mrs Wayne Rethle of Forest Park Illinois welcomed a daughter born Sunday May 17. The infant weighed 6 pounds and 0 ounces and was named Mary Patricia. Mrs Rethle is the former Myrna Ramker daughter of Mr and Mrs William Ramker.
About 100 Scouts and leaders attended the Butler District Camporee at Heery's Woods in Clarksville from Friday evening to Sunday noon. Greene group of 43 led by Bob Fischer Harris on Bone and Kenneth Miller pitched tents and cooked meals by patrols. Delbert Moser ate 18 pancakes to set a breakfast record and Rusty Stewart ate 1415 slices of French toast to set another.
Clayton Behnke son of Mr and Mrs Ralph Behnke finished a nine month auto mechanics course at Universal Trades School in Omaha Nebraska and has accepted employment with Automotive Sales in Omaha.
Duane Leon Landers 16 son of Elmer and Lavon Landers of Greene died at home May 13 after months of illness. A Greene Community High School sophomore and Student Council member he also participated in 4 H and Luther League. Survived by parents a sister and a brother and grandparents, funeral at St Peters Lutheran Church officiated by Rev I J Devies with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge.
Murphy Transportation bowling team won the Waterloo Daily Courier Tournament in Waterloo finishing with a 2716 score with handicap to secure first place. Team members Loretta Muller Evelyn Behnke Gertie Marsh Jess Tornowske and Marian Wood led with 556 526 450 423 and 385 scratch scores. Miller Real Estate's Hampton team placed ninth in the men's division led by Galen Muller Don Santee Paul Jepsen Don Heuberger and George Janssen with a 2998 team total handicap.
Mr and Mrs William C Shepard of Iowa City announce the birth of a son on May 8 weighing 7 pounds 14 ounces. The baby has been named Joel William. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Dana Shepard of Allison and Mr and Mrs Dale Crosby of Greene.
Marty Stuntz a Greene High School senior earned fourth in the 231 yard dash at the Girls State Track Meet in Des Moines on Saturday though the event was the 220 yard dash lengthened by an error. The 440 medley team of Bonnie Siemens Marge Marsh and Linda and Marty Stuntz finished sixth and the 440 relay of Siemens Barb Barth and Linda and Marty Stuntz took seventh.
Eight year old James McLennan and his parents from Greene will visit Edinburgh in June to present a live bear cub to the city’s children. They are among 19 national Jellybean Contest winners sponsored by Channel 2 and Dr. Max. The trip, all expenses paid, is arranged by WMT-TV and Screen Gems with visits to historic sites and meetings with civic leaders.

The Greene Ramblers lost 7 to 6 to Waverly after holding a 6 6 tie, then dropped an 8 to 7 decision to Charles City. Greene had eight hits led by Marsh Teeple, and pitching shifted from Mark Ott to Marsh after an injury. The team is set to host Rockford Friday at 4:00 PM.

New residents Mr and Mrs Virgil Hites welcomed a daughter named Penns Susan at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City weighing 6 pounds 13 ounces born early Tuesday morning. Mr and Mrs Werle Krueger also announced a daughter born Tuesday morning May 19 at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City weighing 10 pounds 6 ounces. Mr and Mrs Roger Spratt of Algona welcomed a son Kevin John born May 11 weighing 8 pounds 3 ounces. Grandparents listed as Mr and Mrs Richard Spratt of Greene and Mr and Mrs Norman Hallberg of Charles City.
The Iowa State Tax Commission reports the December 31 1983 quarter sales tax totals for Butler County towns. Greene tops the list with 19277 48 dollars, Allison 16612 50, Clarksville 10999 77, Parkerburg 14915 82, Dumont 6363 97, Aplington 6772 96, Shell Rock 5273 92, and others. Use tax for the period reached 90411 dollars with 205 new vehicles bought generating 2390 13 dollars in revenue.
Butler County will hold Dairy Day on Saturday June 20 in Clarksville with the annual Dairy Princess Contest. Eligibility requires high school graduation and age 18 to 23 by October 1 1964, no marriage, and farm dairy experience. The winner gets 2500 savings bond and trip to Iowa Dairy Princess Contest. runner up 10 prize.
Glenda Landsgaard vocal instructor at Greene Community School received a teaching assistantship in music at the State University of Iowa for 1964 65. The 12 hour a week post includes graduate study for a Masters degree with a stipend from the Graduate College following a voice audition.
Steven Rottler son of Mr and Mrs Vern Rottler was honored at a scholarship recognition dinner at Iowa State University Ames on Tuesday evening May 12. He ranked in the upper 2 percent of his class in the college of agriculture, among five colleges recognized for scholastic achievement.
Chaplain Don Neely and Mrs Neely of Bracenne France announce the birth of a daughter, Annette Lee, born Saturday May 9. Mrs Neely, Elaine Barnhart, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs Leslie Barnhart. The Neelys will be stationed in France for two more years.
A Peterson Point league session started Wednesday night at Greene Lanes with bowlers listed by names and scores. Top high scores included Sneed 601 with 200 and 225, Starkweather 629, Stock 583, and Lindeman 535, among others.
Greene High School schedules Baccalaureate Sunday May 24 at 8:00 pm and Commencement Tuesday May 26 at 8:00 pm with Rev Wayne Gjerde and Dr Howard Knutson as speakers. Awards honor academics and activities. diplomas to be given. list of graduates includes Alvin Adelmund and Joan Stauffer among many.
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary will sell memorial poppies Friday and Saturday May 22 and 23. Poppies are distributed in Iowa and handmade by disabled veterans at Marshalltown Des Moines Veterans Hospital and Clinton Domiciliary. Poppies will be sold door to door and in the business district. Funds support Veteran Rehabilitation and child Welfare programs. Mrs Donald Steere is the local Poppy Day chairman.
The Greene High School presents a Revue featuring the Stage Band and Top Twenty from instrumental and vocal music. It starts at 7 45 in the high school auditorium with a student dance to follow until 10 30. A Singing in the Rain setting decorates the event and solos and ensembles are planned. Regular admission and dance tickets are at the door. Music Mothers will sell refreshments. all are invited.
John T Secott 64 died Sunday afternoon at 4 15 p m at his Greene home after a lengthy illness He was born June 7 1899 near Allison son of Newton and Laura Richmond Scott He married Dorothy G Hall December 8 1925 at Waverly They farmed near Allison and Greene and lived in Greene thirty years Survivors include his wife three daughters Laura Gail Etzen Marble Rock Lois Tlarks Hiawatha and Arlene Keller Toddville eight grandchildren two brothers Ray Scott Pawhuska Oklahoma Eugene Scott Sheil Rock and two sisters Ollie Dailey Greene and Jessie Smyth Waverly He was predeceased by parents one grandson Dean Thomas Trarks four sisters and four brothers Funeral services were held this afternoon Wednesday at 2 00 o clock at Furst Presbyterian Church Rev G F Butler officiating Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery Keins arrangements
Mrs. Florence Wooding comes home Friday from Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo after a several day stay for treatment.

Anne and Elizabeth Hagarty attended funeral masses in Waterloo over the weekend for their great-niece. Mrs Roger Northrup of Waterloo, formerly Eden Smith, was killed May 12 in a head-on collision near Freeport. The deceased was the daughter of T A Hagarty, formerly of Greene.
