The Butler County Board of Education met with eighteen county school corporations and town superintendents on Wednesday evening May 11 to review a countywide educational program. About sixty five attended as K R Rowley presented the county educational study and talks were given by Burton Mitchell V J Tatum and Gladys Horgen. Denzel Nicholson urged continuing the study and more surveys on youth skills and curriculum. Another meeting will be called once data is gathered.
Larry Dean Raymond age 15 of Greene appeared in Juvenile Court on May 14 charged with larceny of a motor vehicle. Judge Wild committed him to Training School for Boys Eldora until age 21 and ordered release to grandparents under good behavior and supervision of probation officer Henry Burma. Raymond was linked with James Taft and James Magneson of Charles City in larceny of two cars on March 28 1960.
Mrs Etta Buchholz was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on Tuesday May 10 for treatment. The brief item notes the transfer from an unnamed facility and mentions Cedar Valley Hospital as the care location.
New residents Mr and Mrs Alton Howe name twins Kent Harrison and Kathy Rene born May 9 in Charles City. Mr and Mrs Charles Thomas welcome twin sons Scott Charles weighing 4 pounds 9 ounces and Steven Beck 3 pounds 15 ounces born May 10. Mrs Thom as former Arlene Beck taught kindergarten in Greene 1955 1957 and she and husband are former Greene residents.
Mrs G E Hamilton presents a recital by piano students at the First Presbyterian Church on Sunday May 22 at 3 00 p m. Students under seventh grade will participate. The public is invited.
Prize winners in the Towa State Mens Bowling Tournament held in Des Moines last month are announced. Meyers RCA placed 72nd earning $27.00 in the Booster Division Five Man Team Event. Wunsch Plumbing finished 195th with $11.34. Dwight Barnhart and Galen Miller teamed to finish 265th in doubles earning $11.00. Don Ger sema placed 418th in singles earning $6.00. 828 prize winners were listed in this division.
Coach Jerry Himers will hold the first Little League baseball practice this Wednesday after school at 3 45 at the local ball diamond. Boys aged 9 to 11 are eligible to play and those who were 12 after January 1, 1960 may also join. All youngsters are urged to attend as the first game is set for May 26.

Friday Night Mixed League standings list Pin Dodgers No Luck Few Fills and Team No. 2 with high games by Phyllis Jewell Don Jewell 494 and 358. Tuesday Party Bowling notes high scores Alma Heckman Esther Hollingsworth and Carol Shultz with several 400s and 480s.
Greene Ramblers crowned Corn Bowl Conference Track champions by pooling 31 athletes to 70.5 points at Charles City last Wednesday. New records set include Clare Grendler’s 51.6 in the 440 and Gordon Scoles’ marks in shot put discuss and football throw. multiple Greene athletes posted firsts in sprints, relays, and field events. Clare Grendler also placed third in the state moot with 51.5 in the 440, the fastest Iowa high school time in history.
The Butler County Historical Society elected new officers at its May meeting in Allison. Ray Tindall was named president, with Louise Riggert as vice president, Dale Van Eman secretary, and Charles Yost treasurer. The board members include Tindall, Riggert, Yost, Van Eman, W. C. Shepard, Ray Tindall, Glenn Thompson, John Lang, and Cliff Fischer. Curator is Hugh Mosher, with George Feltus and Van Eman as assistants. The schoolhouse on court house grounds will house displays once ready, and debt incurred for the building will be addressed by increased membership from interested parties.
Mary Low Gould and David Trump of Ames joined Jeanne Crocker of Cherokee and Craig Burroughs with the Westminster Foundation at Ames to lead Sunday worship at the Presbyterian Church. The four youths depart June 9 for Wrangell Alaska to serve five weeks with the National Mission Station.
John Hildebrand son of Mr and Mrs Quentin Hildebrand was baptized Sunday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Sponsors were Mrs Walter Hildebrand and Fred Wirth.
Babe Ruth League will hold practice Thursday at 3 45 pm on the local diamond. Coach Jerry Eimers says all players aged 12 before January 1 1960 to 14 since January 1 1960 are eligible. Youths are urged to attend as the first game is near.
A stag supper will be held at the Round Grove Golf and Country Club next Tuesday evening May 24 at 6 30. The Rockford members will serve a full dinner with pic.
The Ramblers were swept in two spring contests losing 18 to 3 to Charles City Comets and 14 to 7 at Aplington. Pitching struggles, unearned runs, and misplayed fly balls hampered their defense. Larry Gabe led hitters with three runs batted in and two triples among several players hitting above .300 as the season ended 6 wins 4 losses.
Larry Gabe son of Mr and Mrs Leo Gaby and Gary Kingery son of Mr and Mrs Orval Kingery, both juniors at Greene Community School, will attend Boy's State at Camp Dodge in Des Moines from June through June 1. Larry played football basketball baseball and track and was sports editor of the Greene and White annual. Gary belongs to the regular band dance band woodwind choir and is active in basketball and track. Their trip is sponsored by Tack Barnett Post 268 of the American Legion and the Veterans Club.
Towa State Teachers College recognized students for scholarship leadership and participation at the College Honors Convocation on Monday afternoon. A reception for honor students and guests followed in the College Commons. Honorees included Faelyn Bruns in Kappa Delta Pi Carol Tatum in Purple Arrow and Jim McNeilus in Wall of Scholarship.
The Greene G Commercial Club will hold its quarterly meeting with a supper in the school cafeteria this evening Wednesday at 6 30.

Inmates James Magneson aged 18 and James Taft aged 19 plotted to escape from a county jail by removing a brick from an interior wall. Sheriff Pete Boomgarden stopped the attempt last weekend. Both men, held on larceny of a motor vehicle charges, admitted they planned to break out after completing their sentences.
The United Telephone Company of Iowa added forty lines at Greene's switchboard last week. The project cost over $450, per company manager Dan Busse, to meet rising demand for service.
Robert Dale Folkers, 18, of Greene appeared in District Court Tuesday May 106th and pleaded guilty to driving with a suspended license. Judge Boyton fined Folkers 50 dollars plus 17 50 costs. Folkers was arrested in Greene on April 27 by the Sheriff's office in Allison.

Kenneth Henline returned to his Rochester home Friday after undergoing heart surgery at St. Mary's Hospital in Minnesota.
