Paul Grendler, a former Greene resident, will present a Renaissance history paper at Illinois State University Normal during the History Conference on Friday May 8. He was a history instructor at the University of Pittsburgh this past year and will join the University of Toronto next year, moving there with his wife in late August. He and his wife will visit his parents Mr and Mrs August Grendler in Greene this week.
The Board of Education has employed Max Dougherty of Griswold as head football coach wrestling coach and assistant track coach with Social Studies teaching duties. A Bedford native and Tarkio College graduate his Griswold team posted 29 wins 7 losses and in 1961 was ranked No 1 in the Class II Des Moines Register Football Poll. The Doughertys plan to move to Greene early summer after securing housing.

The second half of General Aid warrants for Butler County school districts arrived, totaling 19.1 million dollars across 468 high schools, 598 non high schools, and 16 junior colleges. Available distribution is 9.76 million, with a pro rata payment rate of 1022355240. Individual district amounts include Allison-Bristow 8669.92, Clarksville 8409.62, Aplington 8 223.66, Dumont 9636.17, and others such as New Hartford Consolidated, Parkersburg, Shell Rock, West Point and Finchford consolidated districts, with several smaller allocations listed.
Glen Skillen won the consolation round in the Bowl Your Average Tournament at Greene Lanes. The event spanned several weekends and concluded on Sunday.

State Representative Charles E Grassley says a regional sports column misquoted him and that he does not oppose diverting water from the West Fork River to the Big Marsh. He urges using the marsh as a refuge and supports year round water use from September 1 to November 15.

Butler County Extension Services plans its 1965 educational program and six committees on youth family living public affairs farm and home management livestock and marketing crops and soils have been appointed by the council. Kay Connelly says two committees have met and four more will meet this month. Citizens may send suggestions to the Allison office. the program serves all county residents.
Truman M Wamsley born February 7 1897 on a Clarksville farm died April 26 at age 67. He married Fannie Wygle June 16 1920 and had four daughters and one son. A farmer in Clarksville Greene area active in Farm Bureau for 30 years and Farmers Home Administration for 3. Survivors include wife four daughters sonRobert Wamsley eight grandchildren. A Household Lighting Show will be held on Wednesday May 13 at 8 00 p m in the Farm Bureau Auditorium Allison. Demonstrations cover lighting types fixtures shades arrangements and light values. The event is open to the public and encourages 4 H members leaders and parents to attend as the final 4 H Electrical projects meeting of the year.
Betty Steere led three events at the State Lutheran Bowling Tournament held in April, taking first in scratch singles with 533 and first in handicap singles and all events. Her handicap scores were 651 and 1,854, and the Greene Lutheran team won the handicap team event with 2,792. Team members included Irene Rover Barbara Stock Dorothy Fischer and Joyce Bliss.
Ivan Cleeman at St Marys Hospital Rochester Minnesota shows slight improvement after weeks of treatment for complications from a tractor accident March 18. He has been hospitalized at St Marys for several weeks seeking recovery after the crash.
Mrs Leora Williamson was taken to Deifr Valley Hospital in Charles City Friday for heart condition treatment. Her son and daughter-in-law F C and Mrs Leona Williamson of Fort Riley Kansas visited Saturday night. Mrs Williamson will stay about three weeks with room 225.
At the regular meeting Friday night Norman Brown of Dumont was elected treasurer for the rest of 1964. The outgoing treasurer Mrs C S River of Greene resigned after moving into Floyd County. Brown, a three year member representing Madison township, will serve until January 1, 1965, when regular elections for all extension council officers are held.
The senior class of Greene High School will stage Doctor's Orders, a three act comedy, Tuesday evening May 12 at 8 15 at the high school auditorium. Tickets available from seniors or at the door Tuesday.
Public assistance expenditures for April in Iowa totaled 4,614,742 dollars. Butler County recipients received 30,852 dollars, with 2,552,605 dollars paid for Old Age Assistance and 1,560,051 for Aid to Dependent Children. Aid to Blind received 123,378 and Aid to the Disabled 91,208. Medical Assistance for the Aged (MAA) vendor payments 287,500. MAA for the aged totaled 1,590,48. OAA cases in Butler County received 19,989. Aid to Dependent Children cases 6,904, Aid to Blind 836, and Aid to Disabled 510.
Mr and Mrs William Senne welcomed a daughter named Lisa Janelle born Monday April 27 at Mercy Hospital Waverly weighing 7 pounds 13 ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Hugo Senne Greene and Mr and Mrs Charles Franken Shell Rock.
Greene Ramblers defeated Ackley-Geneva 6 to 0 in the sectional baseball first round at Dumont. Alan Marsh pitched a no hitter in his third high school start, with strong defense and no Ramblers errors. The Ramblers advance to face Rockwell-Swaledale in the semifinal at 3 30 p m today.
The Greens High School Concert Band of 67 players earned a Division I rating at the State Music Contest held last Saturday in Hampton. They qualified with Division I scores from all three judges for performances of Air for Band by Frank Erickson and the Original Suite for Military Band first two movements by Gordon Jacobs. Judges were Robert Gidden John R. Leach of Iowa City and C J Kriese of Davenport.
Baptismal services were held Sunday morning May 43rd at St Peter's Lutheran Church for Bret Lee Larenzen son of Garold and spouse of Webster City. Sponsors were grandparents Raymond Larenzen and Earl Rufridge.
James A McLennan son of Mr and Mrs James Ro McLennan of Greene is a national winner among ten selected. He and his parents will visit cities Tokyo Rome London Sydney Zurich Singapore Lima Trinidad and Edinburgh. Screen Gems will announce which city they will visit next week. More than 21 000 area youngsters entered. 439 beans were correct. The McLennans will donate a bear cub to a zoo and appear at civic events. Yogi Bear airs Wednesdays at 5 PM on Channel 2 sponsored by Kellogg.
The Calvary Baptist Church of Greene will host Rev Angelo LoVallo as guest speaker at the 8:00 p.m. Wednesday service. LoVallo, staff representative of Christ's Mission at Sea Cliff New York, was born in Pennsylvania and educated at Scranton University and St Mary's Baltimore. He studied in Genoa Italy and was ordained by Bishop Casesi before serving in the Scranton Diocese. Now a research writer and lecturer, he works with Christ's Mission aiding former priests to find new paths.
The Republicans of Dayton Township hold a caucus at the Darrell Needham home on Saturday night May 9 at 8 00 o clock.
Three area teenagers were injured about 10:45 Saturday evening when their 1960 Chevrolet convertible left a dead end road two miles north of Dumont. Driver Daren Krull, 17, of Greene, and passenger Tim Bramer, 17, of Aredale, along with Jean Siemens, 15, of Greene, were treated for facial lacerations concussion and jaw fractures. Krull was released Sunday. Siemens and Bramer remained hospitalized. Damages totaled about 400 dollars.
