Mr and Mrs Cliff Dulin received word of the death of their grandson Paul Dean Cross 16 son of Mr and Mrs Clyde Bettesworth of Vancouver Washington in a car accident Mrs Dulin left early Monday morning for Vancouver
Several youths entered the residence of George Sneed Saturday evening and allegedly ransacked a refrigerator on the back porch. The event is under investigation by the county sheriff's office and the county attorney to determine possible charges.
The Girl Scout Court of Awards was held in the high school auditorium on Wednesday evening, April 29. Guest speakers Mrs. Gertrude Fick of Mason City and Miss Joan Valentine of Mason City spoke and showed slides. Many scouts received badges in cooking, pottery, painting, reading, aviation, and more. Barbara Allison and Sara Jane Green earned the Curved Bar Award, with their mothers receiving corsages.

Greene defeated Nashua 86 to 34 at Nashua in a dual track meet. Greene swept events led by Slocum 880 and Kepple 100, plus relay squads, Grendler 2nd in 100, Parks 2nd in mile, and Burroughs 1st in broad jump. The Ramblers topped Osage in the Corn Bowl meet with 691 points. Riceville was runner up with 49 points.
Jerry Curtis was fined 525.00 and costs by Mayor Cecil Starkweather on Saturday for speeding. He also paid 50 in justice court for improper passing after a collision alleged with Ronald Fitch, 16, on Highway 14 two miles east of Charles City Sunday night.

Charles Vernon Cave 93 of Clarkeville Iowa born February 18 1866 died Thursday April 30 in Oakland California. He held posts in banking lumber and local government and was active in Masonry and religious groups. Survived by daughter Dorothy Lacey Oakland and son Lawrence San Francisco. Graveside services planned at St Marys Cemetery next week.

Lieutenant Mark P. Frudden USN and his wife visited Greene with their sons Scott and Brian at the Frudden home. Frudden recently completed a Pacific duty as captain of the USS Quapaw ATF 110 based in Honolulu and is now bound for Washington DC to serve as Administrative Aide to Admiral Smith, chief of the Navy Bureau of Personnel. He is a US Naval Academy graduate, class of 1950, with prior service on the USS MacKenzie and LST 1080 among others, participating in the Inchon landing and Koje prison incidents.
The Greene Improvement committee plans a town wide clean up for next Monday with two trucks and volunteer help to haul away rubbish. Residents should have trash boxed and ready for pickup. any missed items can be collected Tuesday by calling Dale Willey for a stop.
Webelos scouts and three leaders spent two days camping near Harpers Ferry. They left Greene at 7:00 Saturday, arrived at Harper's Ferry at 11:00, and traveled from Wines Cabins to McDonalds Island by boat for a two five mile trip where they camped. They cooked three meals over an open fire, fished, hiked, and stopped at Effigy Mounds Sunday. Participants included David Bone, John McRoberts, Gordon Sneed, Jerry Jorges, Darrell Barnett, Bill Walker, Jerry Fischer, Allan Trees, Jim Drake, and Tony Tornowske with adults Robert Tornowske, Harrison Bone, and Francis Grendler.
Greene High freshmen finished fourth among six larger schools at Mason City last Saturday with 27 points, ahead of Clear Lake. Charles C and Hampton Reger placed third and Donald Litte fifth in the 103 yard dash, Butzlaff second in discus, and Larry Blum top in broad jump at 17 feet 8 inches. The 4x440 relay team of Ron Taylor, Mike Brunsma, Roger Wells, and Larry Blum took fourth, while Menken, Mill, Steere and McWilliams were fifth in the Shuttle hurdles.
Thursday night police in Charles City charged DeWayne Stark Weather of Greene with disturbing the peace. Officials cited muffled car noises as the alleged cause of the disturbance.

Charles City justice court heard charges against four locals linked to Saturday night liquor offenses. Bartender Earl Hoeft paid a $325 bond after waiving preliminary on selling beer to minors at Ace Bar and Grill. Richard Mershall and James Osler posted $325 bonds after waiving or confirming preliminary hearings. Gary Gerhard, 21, of near Marble Rock faced a $325 bond for providing beer to minors.
Mrs Herbert Barnett and Paul Flora received word that their brother in law William Gallagher of Laurier Washington died Wednesday April 29 after a stroke on Monday Funeral services were held Saturday with burial at Colgile Washington Mrs Gallagher was the former Wilma Flora of Greene
Greene Junior High defeated Shell Rock 16 to 3 as Nile Myers pitched four innings, Harry Barth closed, Don Devies and Alan Marsh provided support. Greene had 10 hits to Shell Rock's three, with big blows from Gary Stauffer and Eldred Kingery and a Mike Jewell double. Next Friday, May 8, Greene hosts Shell Rock.
Ramblers triumphed 5 1 over Dumont in a game highlighted by Marsh earning his second win. Greene held Dumont hitless for six innings, while Gabe Stubbe and Green drove in runs with timely baserunning and two doubles, as several defensive miscues aided Greene's offense.

Unofficial returns show 660 yes votes and 185 no votes from Greene Community School district voters on a measure to construct a new grade building. A total of 365 ballots were cast with 20 spoiled ballots, indicating strong support and intention to proceed with bids and construction plans.
Charles H. Williams, soon 100, led Greene residents in requesting an absentee ballot for the school election yesterday. A longtime local resident since 1878, he has voted on every school bond issue and lived a life as a farmer, banker, and automobile dealer. He lives with Roy Henline on North Main Street.

Avieng Brown, mathematics director at Greene Community School, is selected as one of six participants at the University of lews Summer Institute for High School Mathematics, funded by the National Science Foundation. She earned a BA from Iowa Teachers College and taught at MecGre fieldwed High School. The program honors high school teachers and aims to boost science and math teaching, with NSF grant covering tuition, fees, stipends, and travel.
