Legislature Debates Farm Land Valuation Method
In the Iowa House Ways and Means Committee a bill proposes a new criterion for valuing agricultural land distinct from other real property. Urban representatives call it grossly unfair, and Rep. Robert Kreamer questions constitutionality given equal application of general laws. The bill pivots from current market value based on sale prices to factors like crop suitability, productivity, soil surveys, and uniform assessments.
