Soil Conservation District Commissioner To Be Elected April 8

The Butler Soil Conservation District will elect a district Commissioner on April 8. Nomination petitions require at least twenty five signers from landowners or operators in the district and are due by March 25. Nominees Roger Harmis of Allison and Richard Allan of Parkersburg will stand for election at Greene Elementary School Building.

Northrup King Co Honored Top Farmers in Iowa Dinner

Northrup King and Company honored its top area producers at a Waverly dinner held last Tuesday at Carver's Restaurant. Lloyd Bigier presented trophies to winners in the Iowa Master Corn Growers Contests across counties, recognizing first second and third place finishers who used Northrup King seed corn. Winners included Karl Zimmerman Aredale and Paul Kramer Aredale in Butler County, Arlin Wente Waverly in Bremer County, Gerald Kingery Greene first and Lyle Stauffer Greene third in Floyd County, Bernard Van Deest Waterloo second in Black Hawk County, Leo Marten Dougherty first in Four County Institute, Roger Hucke Sumner first in Chickasaw County, and Homer Wakefield Alden first for Scenic City Kiwanis at Town Falls.

Music Department Spring Concert Slated for March 26

Greené Community Schools Music Department will present a spring concert on Wednesday March 26 at 7 45 p m in the high school auditorium. Performances include the high school concert band stage band mixed chorus junior high concert band and the sixth grade cadet band with selections from Sousa Eberlin Bencriscutto Caudill and more plus refreshments by Music Mothers.

Ramblers Stay in Corn Bowl Conference Decision

The Greene School Board declined an invitation to join the North Iowa Cedar League Conference. The Ramblers will remain competitors in the Corn Bowl Conference after a Monday evening meeting. North Iowa members listed include Ackley Geneva Eldora Grundy Center LaPorte City and U N I High at Cedar Falls.

Kindergarten Roundup Set For Friday March 21

New Estimated Tax System Will Be Used

The Internal Revenue Service will implement a new estimated tax system for 1969. About 10 million taxpayers were mailed new forms and instructions in February. Taxpayers should read instructions to determine filing requirements. No declaration is required if estimated tax not subject to withholding is likely under 40 dollars. Some taxpayers may increase wage withholding to avoid quarterly payments. The package includes forms, instructions, four vouchers, and pre addressed envelopes.

Five Greene Cagers Named on Corn Bowl All Conference Teams

The Corn Bowl Conference released its All-Conference basketball teams with Greene players honored on both boys and girls rosters. Mary Rottler Donna Weichers and Melinda Drakle lead the first team for Greene girls, while Rich Siemens Jim Shultz head the first Greene boys team. Dirksen Amendment debated as momentum grows in 63rd Assembly

Fund Drive For Car Accident Victim

A care fund called Gary Jacobs Fund TM is being raised to help defray expenses for Gary Jacobs 21 of Clarksville who was seriously hurt in a car crash on October 13 1968. He was pinned under the wreckage until the next morning, treated at Sartori Hospital Cedar Falls and Allen Memorial Waterloo then moved to Younkers Rehabilitation Des Moines on December 2. His neck is fractured and he is paralyzed from the shoulders down. His father died January 17 1969. Clarksville St Johns Lutheran Church and Rev P C Matthias sponsor the drive.
