A lecture film demonstration titled The Laser will be given March 15 1967 at the Allison Bristow Auditorium at 7 30 p.m. The program uses visuals and a laser model to show how it works and its potential in communications medicine industry and space exploration. All students teachers administrators and interested adults are invited.
Gloria Day, Greene Community High School graduate, gave her senior voice recital Monday evening March 6 at Houghton College in Houghton New York. A reception followed in East Hall lounge. Raymond Barnett and Miss Alice Barnett attended and visited their niece.
Carl Johnson 96 died after a fall in Crosby Minnesota Hospital. Funeral held at St Peter's Lutheran in Nome North Dakota. Survived by sons Clifford Johnson Oswald Johnson. daughters Ann Fehr Selma Lee and Carl Friedrichs. Also survived by 1¢ grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
The Girl Scouts of America mark their 55th anniversary from March 12 to 18 with the theme Values to Hold Worlds to Explore. Founded by Juliette Gordon Low in Savannah GA on March 12 1912, the movement has grown to over three million girls and tissues in adults. Greene district includes 115 girls and North Iowa Council about 4728 girls in scouting.
Promoted Charles W. Steere son of Mr and Mrs William Steere Jr Greene is advanced to Sp5 E-5 in February He joined the army in September 1965 and has been stationed at Fort Carson Colorado since January 1966 He serves as assistant mess steward of his company
The Butler County Selective Service induction call for March lists one man, Terry D. Freese of Allison, reporting March 1 to Fort Campbell Kentucky for basic training. The April call also covers one man, Floyd H. Rinnels of Allison, who will volunteer for induction April 3.
Butler County Farm Bureau President Paul Gerdes announced a $100 reward at the March 1 board meeting for information leading to arrest and conviction of anyone involved in theft or vandalism of any farm in Butler County. Call the Sheriff or deputies with tips to curb countywide theft activities.
Public assistance expenditures in Butler County totaled 28972 for February, up 130984 from prior month payments. Breakdown shows Old Age 16246, Medical Aid to the Aged 1429, Aid to Dependent Children 7344, Aid to Blind 1023, and Aid to Disabled 2930, reflecting an 82 percent grants level. Steven J Campbell, son of John and Mrs. Campbell of Dougherty, Iowa, promoted to airman second class at Holloman AFB New Mexico. jet aircraft mechanic and part of Air Force Systems Command. Campbell is a Sheffield-Chapin High School graduate.
Mrs Mable Coen aged 61 died at Humboldt Sunday after a long illness. Born January 22 1906 in Benton County near Vinton she lived in Greene as a young woman. Survived by husband Albert two sons Brice Kent two grandchildren a granddaughter a sister May Ver Plank Greene brothers Ren Clark Thayer and Jay Clark Denver Funeral at Humboldt Methodist Church today at 11 and burial at Rose Hill Cemetery Greene about 3 O clock.
Mr and Mrs James Neessen of West Bend Wisconsin announce the birth of a son David James on February 28 at St Josephs Hospital West Bend. The couple also has a daughter Kathy aged 4. Rev and Mrs I J Devies of Clinton are visiting for March with their daughter and family in West Bend.
Judy Wihlm an 11 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Alphonse Wihlm had an emergency appendectomy at St Josephs Mercy Hospital in Mason City on Saturday afternoon.
The Luther College Concert Band under Weston Noble will start its annual Spring tour with concerts in four states. On tour are Pam Dralle and Marie Smith, daughters of Greene and Marble Rock families, joined by instrumentalists from Cedar Rapids to Waverly. The homecoming concert on March 19 begins at 8 15 p.m. and is open to the public.
Boy Scouts plan a work trip to the old cemetery meeting at Drake's corner Saturday at 9 a.m. They should bring hatchets saws and cutting tools and food for a cookout at noon. Larry Lester leads material prep for a foot bridge.
George Staudt of Greene underwent eye surgery at Mercy Hospital in Mason City last Thursday.

Butler County Easter Seal drive nears three quarter mark with county chairman Irene Ingle noting slow progress. Residents are urged to return envelopes this week or send gifts to Easter Seals Clarksville Iowa 50619 to aid Iowas handicapped and Camp Sunnyside. 90 percent stays in state while ten percent supports the national society.
Mrs Cliff Crane was discharged after a four and a half week stay at St Josephs Mercy Hospital in Mason City following treatment. She returned home last Wednesday to recover.

Last week's bowling results show league standings with Van Dyke Limestone edging Jim's Standard 24 16 and 25 15, while First State Bank 24 16 lost to Miller Real Estate 23 17. Gary's Sinclair suffered a 10 6 defeat, and Miller Real Estate beat Farmer's Co-op 3 4 as early lines note continued details on page 8.
March 17 is the last day for growers to file applications to participate in the 1967 feed grain program. The Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation County Committee urges farmers to sign up at the ASCS office, noting price support and loan terms and that only participants receive payments. The county reports 1,134 farms signed up through March 1, 1967, with about 20,859 acres diverted.

The Corn Bowl Conference selects all conference squads for boys and girls. Greene places two on the first teams: John Barth and Lynn Gabe. Mary Rattler and Margaret Senne named to girls first team. Marilyn Johnson on honorable mention. Boys second team includes Mick Gorley, Jim Wryborney, Curtis Miller, Larry Brown, and Dave Engelstad. Girls second team features Kathy Ausen, Sandy Brunsvold, Myrna Smith, Mary Bottler, with guards Sandy Hall, Linda Lacour, Beth Northway, Margaret Senne. Honorable mentions include Marilyn Johnson, Debbie Kotz, Linda Wolff, Gwen Daily, and Karen Kock.
Mr and Mrs Blair Moffett attended funeral services for Howard Cuffel 54 of Conrad held Tuesday at First Baptist Church Eldora. Burial followed in Conrad cemetery. The Kindergarten Roundup for the 1967 68 school year will be held Monday March 13 in the elementary school's kindergarten room. Children age five on or before September 15 are eligible to enroll.
