Voters in Butler Soil Conservation District will elect a new District Commissioner on March 29 at the County-Wide Weed Meeting venue in Allison Farm Bureau Building Auditorium. Candidates are Adam Schwab of Shell Rock and Melvin Dreier of Dumont, each serving as assistant commissioner since 1959 with long-term cooperators on sizable farms. Polls run 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Any land owner or operator in Butler is eligible to vote.
Mary Hemmerich, 16, received first and second degree burns on Saturday February 23 when her clothing caught fire from an oil burning stove at her parents farm home Mr and Mrs Walter Hemmerich. She was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City for weeks of treatment.
Mrs Alyce Kanter sustained a badly scalded right leg from the knee to the ankle after spilling a pan of boiling water Tuesday of last week. She is recuperating at home.
Joyce Mary Brocka of New Hartford charged with speeding. fined $20 and $490 costs. John Henning of Greene cited for speeding. $15 fine and $4 costs. Donald McGee of Greene charged with speeding. $10 fine and $4 costs. J. P. Knight's Court Harry Henry Barnes of Grundy Center charged with speeding. $30 fine and $4 costs. Mrs Thelma Grey of Greene charged with failure to have vehicle under control. $10 fine.
Butler County 4 H leaders and junior helpers guide local clubs across many groups including Busy Beavers and Rockettes. The County Committee coordinates planning, assistance, and evaluation of the 4 H program, with volunteers from Allison Clarksville and other towns. Reverend George L. Smith of Baptist Mid Mission will speak at Calvary Baptist Church on March 10 with slides on his Mexico mission. The public is invited to attend.
Mr and Mrs Robert Siemons of Clarksville announce the birth of their son Bret Joel at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City on February 27. The baby weighed 7 pounds 7 ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Jerry Siemons and Mr and Mrs Valoris Taylor of Greene.
Gesine Wilhelmina Siemons a 14 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Siemons received her Derivation Papers in District Court in Cedar Rapids last Wednesday. She had become a U S citizen with her parents in 1955 but only got proper identification papers last week.
Mrs Alvin Landers underwent major surgery at Cedar last Thursday. The report notes the procedure occurred at Cedar and updates her condition after the operation.
The Butler County Beef Producers Banquet will be held Monday March 18 at 6 45 pm in the Boyd Building Shell Rock. Speakers include Dr Leslie Johnson Iowa State University and J V Rowe Sunray Oil Waterloo. Tickets from board, cattle feeds, or County Extension Allison.

A representative of the Social Security Administration District office in Waterloo will visit Allison Court House on March 14 and 28 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. District Manager Earl T. Johnson announced. Call the Waterloo office at 234-1554, room 702 of the Black Hawk Building, W. 4th and Commercial Streets.
Butler County treasurer H Herschel Oppermead reports 1962 registrations totaled 11 070 with 7409 autos 2008 trucks 1572 trailers mobile homes. 3479 titles issued 1196 liens recorded. Registration receipts totaled 325 776 84 with use tax of 41 949 97. Of that 7615 55 was transferred to the county general fund the remainder to the state of Iowa.
N. John Anderson of Los Angeles California a former Greene resident died there on Monday Survivors include his wife Vivian Hildebrand two daughters Mrs Jean Nowitzke of Los Angeles and Mrs Ada Alley of Colusa and seven grandchildren Funeral services are in Los Angeles
The Greene Farm Bureau Women's Bowling team representing Butler County won the state Farm Bureau tournament in Boone with a score of 2912, besting sixteen teams. Members Loretta Miller Dawn Cheney Evelyn Behnke Maxine Heubeiser and Gertie Marsh earn trophies and prize money.
Visiting parents Mr and Mrs Tom Kline and son Bradley of Fort Devens Massachusetts arrived on Monday for a fifteen day visit with his parents Mr and Mrs W L Kline. Mr Kline will then leave for a tour of duty at Eritrea in Northern Ethiopia.
The county civil defense board held a February 22 meeting in Allison presided by Chairman Will Harmis with mayors and six towns represented. They voted to hire a full time Civil Defense Director at 350 dollars monthly plus mileage and office expenses, to attend civil defense school, oversee AM 25 1 and AM 7 programs, coordinate with Red Cross and agencies, and manage adult education. applications due by March 11, 1963 with 25 percent county funding, 25 percent town funding, and 50 percent federal funds.
Ervin Uhlenhopp returned home last Wednesday from Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City after an emergency appendectomy.
Massey Ferguson Implement Company invites area customers to an open house and cold weather tune up day at the Greene store on Saturday March 9 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Lunch, a prize drawing, and a ticket to attend the Mason City central store event next week are planned. Greene Ramblers beat Sumner 62 to 53 on Friday on the Waverly floor. Monday night they lost to Waverly 61 to 44 in the district tournament semifinals. Key early scoring came from Gary Rattler and Harry Barth with Kingery taking over later. Mike McAloon fueled the offense in the first half as Greene controlled rebounding and built a 19 point lead before reserves closed the game.

Tom Albrecht suffered several fractured ribs in a fall near Kemming's Super Service on Tuesday afternoon. He was admitted to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City for treatment.
