Readers praise the Crown Vetch planted along the Greene by pass shoulders. The creeping vine, chosen for rapid growth and durability, threads purple blossoms beside the road, offering beauty and function. On July Fourth Greene hosts parks, races, swimming, and a large fireworks display.
A week of junior Angus field days for Iowa youth runs July 5 to 11 with the Iowa Junior Premier Show on Sunday July 13 in Des Moines. Greg Wood, president of the Iowa Junior Angus Association, says the program teaches fitting grooming showmanship and judging. The preview starts at 10:00 a.m. at the Iowa State Fairgrounds Des Moines. Eligible participants include all 4 H and FFA members with an Angus steer or heifer project. A highlight is the state showmanship contest to choose Iowa’s top two showmen who will compete August 4 and 5 in Lexington Kentucky at the National Junior Angus Showmanship Contest.
Price support for 1968 corn and soybeans not yet under loan must be requested by June 30 and disbursed by July 30. Corn loan rate is 1.01 per bushel and soybean loan rate is 2.47 per bushel. To reseal, crops must be under loan. deadlines apply for loan placement. Soybeans may be resealed in warehouse and corn in pot. Soybeans under loan on the farm must be transferred to a warehouse by July 30.
The Nation-Wide derby Worlds Greatest Thrill Spectacular comes to the Butler County Fair on July 24. Up to 50 local drivers race to be the last car running for cash prizes and dare trophies amid planned crashes and thrills.
Kenneth E. Hart, Chairman of the County ASC, reminds farmers that Agricultural Conservation Program ACP practices must meet specified standards before cost share payments. Carol Litterer completed studies at Patricia Stevens Career College Milwaukee on June 7 receiving an academic achievement award. She studied Fashion Merchandising and Finishing and is visiting her parents Mr and Mrs Louis Litterer.
Iowa farmers are urged to watch corn borer development over the coming weeks. Harold Tiny Gunderson notes moths have begun to emerge and lay eggs, with peak egg laying the week of June 22. Regular inspections and threshold-based treatments are advised, including diazinon, toxaphene, EPN formulations, IPN, and Bacillus thuringiensis, with no grazing restrictions after treatment.
Joanne Frankenfield from Charles City Tom Ritter from Greene Mary Diegel and Doris Montag from Nora Springs were chosen as Floyd County 4-H members to live one week in July with Wisconsin 4-H families in Shawnee County Sparta. Four Wisconsin 4-H members and a leader will visit Floyd County on July 12 with host families to be named. The goal is cross county交流 and to compare attitudes and lifestyles while several activities are planned.
Sam Crooks underwent surgery Friday morning June 20 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester Minnesota. He is reported as doing fine.
The Country Club hosts Ladies Day today Wednesday with events for members. A Stag Night is set for Tuesday July 1st featuring social and recreational activities.
Wendy Martzahn received the traditional congratulatory kiss from her mother and aunt after accepting the crown and title at the band festival in Mason City on June 12 1969 She plans to attend the University of Iowa majoring in music as the second Greene County winner chosen from a field of 68 entrants The other local winner was Marilyn Fowler now Mrs Arvid Lindell who reigned in 1946.

Vietnam era notice reports 18 year old Private First Class Winfred K. Juncker Jr. son of Mr and Mrs W K Juncker of Aredale was assigned May 26 to Company A 26th Engineer Battalion Americal Division near Chu Lai as a repairman.
Riceville defeated the Ramblers 4 to 3, scoring three runs in the fifth on four hits and one error. Dinger, Popichal, and Foster had two hits for Riceville while Reed held the Ramblers to two hits through six. Wendell Stuntz struck out 10 in his first start, Ramblers left with three runs in the seventh. Next games travel to St Ansgar Friday and Nora Springs Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Wegand and Heidenwirth, sons of Mr and Mrs Wegand and Mr and Mrs Heidenwirth, have been admitted to Waldorf College Forest City. The two will join a freshman class from about 20 states and several foreign countries. Orientation is August 27 with summer preparations including roommate and room assignments and possible mid-summer campus visit for advance registration.

Greene High School concert band sends fifteen students to All State Music Camp at University of Iowa and Northern Missouri State. scholarships aid and camp activities described. Fourth of July events include kids races, swimming and diving, and a fireworks show at Round Grove Golf and Country Club co sponsored by the Country Club and Commercial Club.
The RCA Rodeo returns as a feature at the National Dairy Cattle Congress in Waterloo from September 20 to 28. Five performances are scheduled for September 27 and 28 with shows at 1 00 pm 4 00 pm and 7 00 pm on Saturday and 1 00 pm and 4 00 pm on Sunday. Western horse shows follow each rodeo performance featuring top Quarter Horses Paints Appaloosas and POAs in the Midwest. all Hippodrome shows are free to patrons. Rodeos produced by Bob Barnes of Peterson Iowa include Saddle Broncs Bareback Broncs Calf Roping Bull Riding Bulldogging and Girls Barrel Racing.
Mr and Mrs Bruce Marsh announce the birth of a daughter on Thursday evening June 19 at Floyd County Memorial Hospital Charles City. The infant weighed 6 pounds 4 ounces and will be welcomed home by brothers Steve and Darren.
Iowa FFA members return to Waterloo for the National Dairy Cattle Congress from September 20 to 28 1969. About 125 Iowa high schools enter dairy judging contests on opening day. The Kiddies Barnyard and farm machinery exhibits attract families and farmers alike with free entertainment across the Hippodrome and race track. Premiums total 50000 as dairy cattle horses dairy goats and meat animals from 15 states compete.
