Don Hamilton suffered first second and third degree burns Friday evening at his in law’s home near Plainfield when an outdoor grill flare up burned his right arm upper body and the right side of his face. He was treated at Mercy Hospital in Waverly and will move with his wife and son to Iowa City for summer school at the University of Iowa.
Rev Darrel Fryman and family of Greene Church of the Brethren will attend the 176th annual Brethren conference at Ocean Grove New Jersey this month. About 1100 delegates from the United States Canada Nigeria Ecuador and India will form the voting body for the denomination. This coastal meeting marks the fifth Ocean Grove gathering after previous sessions at Long Beach California last year.
A stag supper will be held at Round Grove Golf and Country Club on Tuesday evening June 19. Committee members are Verne Thompson and John Van Eschen.
Robert McGee six year old son of Mr and Mrs Lowell McGee fractured both bones above the wrist in an Iowa Falls incident on Monday June 4 He rode a bicycle and went into a creek becoming tangled in it He was hospitalized with both arms in casts and released June 5 He was visiting at the home of his grandparents Mr and Mrs Ernest Tjarks at the time of the accident.
On Honor Roll Vern Gard the high school principal announced that Dallas Steere a senior was on the honor roll for the fourth quarter and second semester.
The Little Leaguers beat Nora Springs Eagles 7 to 4 in opener behind Bruce Nettleton and Greg Drakle pitching. Babe Ruth tops Nora Springs 6 to 5 with Ramblers rallying after early deficits. Both teams then defeated Rudd 17 to 7 and 10 to 2 as Lynn Gabe, Steve Clapham, and others held strong pitching. Greene hosts St Ansgar and then Rockford in Shell Rock Valley League play.
Visited by Sergeant and Mrs. Ivan Os borne and daughter Patricia the Osbornes spent two weeks with Mrs Osborne’s parents Mr and Mrs Herman Rover. They just returned from Okinawa where he served three years in the Air Force and will soon be stationed near Montgomery Alabama.
Greene Merchants defeated visiting Readlyn 9 to 4 on Sunday evening. Greene scored five runs in the first inning behind hits by Gabe Sutton Nolte and Barth with Atkin son and Sutton contributing later. Pitching by Nolte Sutton and Marsh supported by Barth. Readlyn’s pitchers Gruber Gehrke and Hennings with Hennings catching. Next Sunday Greene hosts Janesville.
Gloria Day of near Aredale escaped injury Saturday afternoon when her car rolled after missing a stop sign one mile west of Gate's Bridge. She was traveling east and in a last minute attempt to stop, the vehicle went out of control and landed upside down in a ditch on the north side of the road.
Robert Graves 18 of Waterloo was arrested by Black Hawk County Sheriff's office on a charge of uttering a false check. He gave the check to Bessman's One Stop in Dumont last month, appeared in Justice of Peace Court in Allison on June 7 and pleaded guilty, receiving seven days in the county jail.
Gordon Wood and Cliff Fischer went home Thursday from St Josephs Mercy Hospital Mason City after eye surgery. Jean Montgomery also left hospital Sunday after a week of treatment.

Marie M Heidenrirth 71 died early Thursday at Clark Rest Home where she resided since February 9. Born July 5 1890 near Nashua she first married Charles Yeoman in 1911 and had a son in 1913 who died in infancy. Yeoman died in 1919. She married Gus C Heidenwirth in 1921 and had two children Max Raymond and Helen Martha. Survived by son Max and daughter Helen Lester two grandsons Tim and Tom Heidenwirth and Larry Lester a step daughter Mrs Walter Detra and brothers Hans Christensen Cedar Falls and Marshall Christensen Charles City. Preceded by two brothers and two sisters. Funeral Saturday June 9 at Methodist Church Rev Clayton Becket officiating burial Rose Hill Cemetery Williams Mortuary in charge.
The Floyd County Memorial Hospital Commission announced the purchase of a twenty acre site for the new Floyd County Memorial Hospital from Clarence C. and Matilda Brand for 26000 dollars. The property lies just south of Charles City city limits near the South Main Street and South Town Line road. Commission members are Weston H. Blunt C. L. Kelly Jr B. C. Sullivan C. E. Tatum and Paul Stalker.
Funeral services for Mrs Mane Heidenwirth drew a large group from multiple towns. Attendees included Mr and Mrs John Voss and Mr and Mrs Gilman Voss of Milton, Wisconsin, and several Christensen families from Charles City Cedar Falls Nashua Belmond and Marble Rock. Also present were Mrs Joe Horn of Clarion Mrs Carol Christensen Erik Hannemann and others from Nashua Belmond and Biwabik Minnesota.
Miz Georgian Downs music students present a four part program in the high school auditorium on Wednesday evening June 20 at 8:00 o clock. The show will feature the accordion band solos duets guitar solos and duets and piano selections.
Perrin Park playground opens Monday June 18 at 1 30 p m for six weeks of summer activities sponsored by the Greene Women’s Club. Mrs Frank E Thompson of Healdsburg California completed a ten day visit with her aunt Esther Davis mother Amy Gray and other relatives and friends before returning home Wednesday.
Don Hagarty of the Butler Soil Conservation District announced the 1962 Queen of Conservation County contest finals set for Sunday August 5 at the County Fair. Iowa Farmers Grain Dealers Association sponsors the state contest with a $25000 prize. county winners wear bracelets and advance to a regional contest later.
Mr and Mrs Arthur Ramker of Chicago Illinois are visiting at the homes of his sisters Mrs A M Bethke and Mrs Clara Weiss and other relatives. Also visiting in the Bethke home are Mrs Bethke s son and daughter in law Mr and Mrs Edward Bethke of Spokane Washington.
Renee Hagarty travels to Ames on Sunday to assist county officers and extension personnel. The gathering aims to prepare for the 4-H boys and girls conference slated to be held at the college later in the week.
Clarksville’s Karen Kalainoff, 18, won the Butler County Dairy Princess title at the Greene Dairy Day program. Judith Ann Buchholz was runner up, with Kalainoff set to compete in August at Harlan Iowa state contest. The event drew about 1200 amid a day of parade, dairy smorgasbord, talent show and school band performances.

Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Whitehead returned home Saturday after a stay in Iowa City for treatment at University Hospitals.
John M Whitehead earned a bachelor of arts degree at the State College of Iowa during Friday morning’s commencement in Cedar Falls. Attending were Mr and Mrs Basil Johnson, Karen, and Mr and Mrs Dale Johnson. The Whitehead family has moved to Traer where he will teach and coach in the junior high and direct the summer Little League program.

Marvin Hall and Norma Spuis Hall of Nashua welcome daughter Peggy Jo weighing 9 pounds 11 ounces. The Greene local league announces practice times for Babe Ruth and Little League teams. Babe Ruth meets 2:00 pm Wednesday and Friday, with 8 and 9 year olds included. Little League at 3:30 pm on the same days, switching to 8:30 am and 10:00 am starting June 18. Mr Sutton coaches 8 9 year olds Mondays and Thursdays 10:30 am to 11:30 am. The league opens June 19 at 6:30 pm with four teams, about fifteen players per team, coaches and umpires named.
Mrs Galen Martzshn underwent surgery this morning at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. During her absence, Mrs Wilford Griner is managing her flower shop.
Dennis Smeins, son of Mr and Mrs Henry Smeins, had a tonsillectomy Friday morning at Cecar Valley Hospital in Charles City.
