Rites for Leon Marsh

Leon B. Marsh 64 of Marble Rock died Saturday at Methodist Hospital Rochester. Born May 22, 1910 in Floyd County Iowa to Bert and Grace Marsh he was survived by his wife Maxine daughter Diane Nandell two grandchildren a sister and a half brother. Funeral services were at United Methodist Church Marble Rock with burial Hillside Cemetery. Rev Carroll Robinson officiated. Cornerstone Lodge No 251 Marble Rock conducted Masonic rites.

Women’s softball practice set for Thursday

A notice invites all women aged 18 and over interested in starting a softball team to attend practice Thursday July 11th at 7 p.m. The session aims to organize and recruit players for a new team.

Little League Benefit Softball Game Sunday

The annual Little League Benefit Softball games take place Sunday July 14 at the high school baseball diamond. First game at 7 p.m. features Little League girls against the boys, followed by the Terrible Merchants versus the Horrible Farmers in a near professional caliber clash.

Merfeld rites held at St Marys Greene for 74 year old

Clyde Emil Merfeld 74 of Greene died July 3 at Fritz Dickman home near Allison. Born August 7, 1899 in Greene to Mathew and Mary Merfeld, he was World War II veteran. Survivors include brother Vern sister Mrs Carl Popes sister-in-law Mrs Edna Merfeld. Rites held July 6 at St Marys Catholic Church Greene with burial in St Marys Cemetery. Rev Edmund Cooney officiated. Tack Barnett Legion Post 268 led military rites. Proceeds from games support Boys Girls Little League and Babe Ruth programs.

40th Anniversary of Rev Edmund L Cooney Ordination

The Very Reverend Edmund L. Cooney of St. Marys Greene marks 40 years since his ordination to the priesthood with a Concelebrated Mass at 3 p.m. Sunday July 21 followed by a social hour and 5 p.m. parish dinner. Born September 26, 1904, he studied at Oelwein, University of Iowa, Loras College, and St Paul Seminary before ordination by Archbishop Francis Beckman on May 26, 1934. He served at St Joseph Waterloo, Holy Name West Union, St Patrick Ryan, Assumption Cresco, and since August 1970 has been pastor of St Marys Greene.

Christian folk group to play at Greene Way Station Fri

Dave Burrier and the Three in One, a Christian folk group, visit Greene Way Station this Friday July 12 at 7 p.m. The event invites the public and especially youth. Burrier, working in Calendar, started the Way Station a year ago as director and for a summer youth program.

Rites Thursday for Dora Ackley of Marble Rock

Mrs. Dora Ackley, 87, of Marble Rock died Tuesday at Mathers Nursing Home in Greene. Born March 17, 1887 in Marble Rock to M and M William Thieman, she leaves son Elroy Ackley, brother Earl Thieman, five grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren. Funeral services are planned Thursday.

Nominations Open for Greeme School Board Elections

Nominations for Greeme Community School District directors must be filed in the Board Secretary’s office by 5 p.m. on August 1, 1974 for the September 10, 1974 election. Coldwater and Dayton-Fremont townships elect directors Ray Brinkman and Donald Hagarty, both incumbents seeking reelection. Ladies Invitational Golf and Bridge Tournament Held at Greene Club

The June 26 event at Greene Round Grove Golf and Country Club drew 78 out of town guests, including 74 golfers and over 50 locals. Winners span multiple flights in 9 hole and 18 hole play, with Mary Gordon Belmond topping the 9 hole Championship Flight and Ann Salmon leading the 18 hole Championship Flight. bridge results list Lucille Tusler of Osage among out of town high scorers and Gladys Albrecht as Greene’s top local.
