Leon B. Marsh 64 of Marble Rock died Saturday at Methodist Hospital Rochester. Born May 22, 1910 in Floyd County Iowa to Bert and Grace Marsh he was survived by his wife Maxine daughter Diane Nandell two grandchildren a sister and a half brother. Funeral services were at United Methodist Church Marble Rock with burial Hillside Cemetery. Rev Carroll Robinson officiated. Cornerstone Lodge No 251 Marble Rock conducted Masonic rites.

The annual Little League Benefit Softball games take place Sunday July 14 at the high school baseball diamond. First game at 7 p.m. features Little League girls against the boys, followed by the Terrible Merchants versus the Horrible Farmers in a near professional caliber clash.
Merfeld rites held at St Marys Greene for 74 year old
Clyde Emil Merfeld 74 of Greene died July 3 at Fritz Dickman home near Allison. Born August 7, 1899 in Greene to Mathew and Mary Merfeld, he was World War II veteran. Survivors include brother Vern sister Mrs Carl Popes sister-in-law Mrs Edna Merfeld. Rites held July 6 at St Marys Catholic Church Greene with burial in St Marys Cemetery. Rev Edmund Cooney officiated. Tack Barnett Legion Post 268 led military rites. Proceeds from games support Boys Girls Little League and Babe Ruth programs.

40th Anniversary of Rev Edmund L Cooney Ordination
The Very Reverend Edmund L. Cooney of St. Marys Greene marks 40 years since his ordination to the priesthood with a Concelebrated Mass at 3 p.m. Sunday July 21 followed by a social hour and 5 p.m. parish dinner. Born September 26, 1904, he studied at Oelwein, University of Iowa, Loras College, and St Paul Seminary before ordination by Archbishop Francis Beckman on May 26, 1934. He served at St Joseph Waterloo, Holy Name West Union, St Patrick Ryan, Assumption Cresco, and since August 1970 has been pastor of St Marys Greene.
