Dale Thoreson Named Butler County Extension Director
Dale R. Thoreson will assume the position of County Extension Director in Butler County on February 15, announced Jim Lindaman, chairman of Council. A Nome North Dakota native, he grew up on a dairy and pram farm and has 4H, dairy judging, and leadership roles at North Dakota State University. He earned a BS there, then worked as a Hormel livestock buyer, served two years in the Army as a 1st Lieutenant, and earned an MS in Dairy Science from Oklahoma State. He is currently in orientation with James Johnson in Hardin County, and he and wife Linda live in Allison.

Butler Cancer Society Awards At Quarterly Meeting
Butler County Chapter of the American Cancer Society awarded honors at its Allison meeting. T. J. Spain of Parkersburg received a citation for chairing the 1972 Cancer Crusade in Butler County, and Mrs. Harry Muller of Shell Rock earned the Harold W. Morgan Nominee Award. Memorials totaling 249 dollars were reported for local honorees, with donations supporting memory tributes across several cities. The Crusade planning meeting is set for February 6 in New Hampton, and March 6 is slated for the next board session.

Stephenson elected Cedar Valley Mental Health Center chair
G. E. Stephenson of Greene was chosen chairman of the Cedar Valley Mental Health Center board for 1973 at the ninth annual meeting January 15 in Waverly. Wilbur Tindall of Greene serves as Butler County representative. The 1972 review by Jerome Aleff found the center financially sound and negotiating new county contracts to fund program expansion including outpatient care and prevention. A new eight week Parent Effectiveness Training course by staff William Striepe and Rodney Golberg will aid parents in handling children’s emotions and conflicts. The Cedar Valley Mental Health Center is a non profit based in Waverly serving Bremer Butler Chickasaw and Fayette counties with United Fund support and entering its tenth year.

Allison grower Roger Harms topped District 6 in the Iowa Master Soybean Growers Contest at Iowa State University lunch.
