Mrs. Maude Marsh and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Marsh attended funeral services for Frank Farrington, 76, at St. Louis on Monday afternoon. Farrington, a former Marble Rock resident, was killed Friday evening when struck by a car while stepping into the street.
Keith H. Dralle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Dralle, is now stationed with the U S Navy in New York. His address lists the U N 5S N 5297549, O P Division W S 5 Shangri La CVA 38 Fleet Post Office New York New York.
Frank Edgar Wilkie born August 18 1886 in Rockford died January 17 after months of ill health. He married Mabel Larsen October 20 1918 and lived in Rockford later moving to Greene. Survived by two daughters six grandchildren one great grandson. Funeral at First Methodist Church Rockford officiated by Rev George Baker. burial Riverside Cemetery.
Several locals attended the Des Moines Inaugural Ball honoring Governor and Mrs. Hughes and Lt. Gov. Mooty at the Veteran's Auditorium Thursday evening. Named couples included Mr. and Mrs. Mike Ramker Mrs. Zula Ramker Mrs. A. L. Stanton Mr. and Mrs. Bill Newbern Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Klassi Mr. and Mrs. John Van Eschen and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Ramker.
Ed Michael Merfeld aged 67 died Saturday evening at the Gene Curtis home where he had resided six months. He was born in Butler County to Matt and Mery Brunner Merfeld and married Catherine Stanton on April 20, 1921. They farmed locally until her death in 1959. Surviving include a daughter Mrs. Lyle Barnett, Clarksville, four brothers, a sister, and ten grandchildren. Funeral at St Mary’s Church Tuesday at 10 am with Rev. Joseph Murphy officiating. burial in St Mary’s Cemetery. Williams Mortuary in charge.
New residents Mr and Mrs Robert Andersen of Pella welcomed a son named Richard Courtney born Thursday January 17 at Community Hospital. Weighing 8 pounds 10 ounces, he is grandchild of Dr and Mrs B V Andersen and Mr and Mrs Wil son Ray of Greene. James Spratt and Mrs Spratt of Rockford welcomed a daughter Robin Renee born Friday January 18 at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City weighing 9 pounds. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Rk T Spratt and Mr and Mrs Bill Jacobs of Greene.
Funeral services for Emory Scott 68 who farmed near Allison were held Tuesday at 1 30 p m in the United Church of Christ in Allison with interment in Lynwood Cemetery at Clarksville He is survived by his wife one daughter Mrs Omke Doeden of Bristow three brothers Ray of Pohaska Oklahoma John of Greene and Eugene of Nashua and two sisters Mrs Charles Dailey of Greene and Mrs Ray Smith of Waverly
Vernon H. Kyle of Parkersburg in his Iowa Senate term has been named to Conservation Appropriations Highways Insurance Schools and Educational Institutions Transportation and Highway Safety and Tax Revision committees. He serves as Parkersburg School Board head and is active in conservation circles with long ties to the garage and new car selling business.

Butler County Sixteen member Extension Council sets general policies for the county extension program. The council guides operation, hires staff, and plans the annual budget for public training and information services. 4‑H is supervised by the cooperative extension service with Kay A. Connelly as director and a team including Grace Benjegerdes, C. Dean Johnson, and Judy Bruns.
Cub Scout Pack 26 of Greene, sponsored by the Greene Commercial Club, announces a Blue and Gold Open House on February 13 at Greene Elementary School Gym. The event marks the 53rd anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America with theme America Be Prepared. New members will be inducted, awards presented, and older scouts graduated to Boy Scout troops. Vernon P. Schoolcraft, 66, of Fredericksburg died suddenly of a heart attack on Saturday. Survived by his wife four daughters including Mrs. Glenn Skillen of Greene and one son. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Methodist Church in Fredericksburg with burial in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.
A record 233 baby beef calves were tattooed in Butler County this year, compared with 210 last year, per County Extension Assistant Co Dean Johnson. Of the 233, 227 are 4-H and 6 are FFA calves eligible for the Butler County Fair Junior Show in August, with 105 Herefords, 99 Angus and 29 Shorthorns tattooed.
The Ramblers beat Nora Springs 64 40 as Greene scored 17 and Kingery topped rebounds with 13. Nora Springs shot 20 of 32 at the line. Ramblerettes defeated Nora Springs 53 20 led by Jepsen with 23 and Cheney and Stuntz with 11 each. Ramblerette first team and second teams posted 68 16 and 49 18 wins over Nashua. Jepsen set a school record with 50 points in the varsity game.
Mae Squires, 84, passed away Tuesday evening at her Greene home. Survivors include son Everett Squires, daughter Merk Merfeld of Marble, six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services are pending at Reids Funeral Chapel.
Representaties Grass ley of New in Wietam joins the Agriculture and Horticulture Committee and the Appropriations Committee in the Iowa House of Representatives. He will also serve on Constitutional Amendments Judicial Safety and Law Enforcement Schools and Tax Revision. The Safety and Law Enforcement Committee will handle the liquor by the drink bill.
Lonita Schafer nine year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Roger Schafer had a tonsillectomy last week at Mercy Hospital in Mason City.
Supt. V J Tatum and principals Vern Gard and George Koons attended the Mid Winter Meeting of the Iowa Association of School Administrators at Iowa State University on Saturday January 19. The program featured talks by Supt. Paul Johnson Wartburg College Fred Thompson Nicho las Schneber C J Johnson and Dr John Wewmaier Moorehead State College with emphasis on education future requirements and college counseling for seniors.
Alice Clark 84 of Greene died Saturday at Ahrens Home in Clarksville after living in various Iowa communities since birth on September 25 1878 near Allison. She and Lee Clark married December 25 1900 farmed near Vinton and Afton before his ISG death. Survived by two sons Ren and Jay two daughters Dale Ver Plank Mabel Coen, 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, two sisters. Funeral Tuesday at 2 at Williams Mortuary with Rev Harold Miler officiating burial Rose Hill Cemetery.
