Hog price outlook for 1969 due to production rise

Iowa State economist Gene Futrell warns of a 50 cent to $1 per hundredweight drop in hog prices in early 1969 from 1968 levels. Prices for 200-240 pound hogs on Interior Iowa markets may average near $18.50, with a seasonal dip in March and a rise by July, while late 1969 prices are seen around $15-$16. Ample beef and poultry supply expected to keep meat demand competitive.
