Iowa road fund plan shifts share to cities in 1962
Capitol News reports a road study committee agreement on a new funding formula. Beginning January 1, 1962 municipalities would receive 10 percent of the road use tax fund, split 40 percent to primary highways and 60 percent to counties for secondary roads, with phased increases to 12 percent in 1963 and 14 percent in 1965. The plan relies on per capita and need bases, with county allocations split 60 percent need and 40 percent area. Bonds retirements and federal grants are noted, Iowa interstate progress cited.
