Mailers go out this week and events run through January to support Birth Defects and Arthritic cases nationwide.
George Koons elementary principal will attend the twelfth annual Elementary Leaders Workshop at the State College of Town on January 11 12. The event themed Leadership in Supervision is sponsored by the SCI department of education and psychology. Dr Jane Franstih from the U S Office of Education will speak and serve as special consultant for the two day workshop.
State Conservation Commission reports increased fox hunting as snow boosts access. Rabbit hunting continues with light pressure and good populations in some areas while coyote and crow hunting fill open spaces. Trapping on state lands remains high with rising muskrat prices encouraging harvest. muskrats remain abundant in Towa. Season closes February 28, 1963.
Stella Jones 75 born July 15 1887 on a farm near Greene died January 2 at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City after admission December 28. In Nursing Home John Sidmore of Dougherty and Mrs Franc Schuknecht of Marble Rock are new residents at the Clark Nursing Home in Greene.
The Adult Sewing and Knitting Class at Greene High School starts Monday January 21 at 7 00 pm. Instructor is Miss Donna Thomas. Tuition is five dollars for a ten week course.
Harold E. Voss of Austinville named chairman as the Butler County Board reorganized for the new year. Voss represents the third district and begins the last year of his second term after re election in November. Cecil W. Starkweather of Greene assumes the second district seat as Paul C. Schaeffer retires after twelve years on the board.
The Gabe and Hamilton Implement Company and the Packard Elevator Incorporated were broken into late Sunday afternoon. The Packard Elevator window entry occurred between 5:30 and 7:00 PM, with a safe containing $10.00 and a $1,000 USC check, plus $5.50 from a cash register, stolen. The Gabe and Hamilton shop also lost $57.00 from its safe. The Butler County Sheriff’s Office investigates. A Nashua restaurant was broken into Sunday night, believed by authorities to be tied to the same vandals.

The Greene Scouts held the fourth annual Burning of the Greens at Klassi Acres on Sunday at 5:00 pm to mark Twelfth Night. Brownie and intermediate troops crowned queens and princesses through a cake-with-object game, while Greene Fire Department attended for safety.
Immigrations official Robert C. Wilson in Omaha urged non citizens in Iowa and Nebraska to file address reports before January 31. He noted diplomatic status exemptions and that parents must file for alien children under 14. About 20 000 reports expected nationwide in the two states.
Butler County field assessors named by county assessor Herman H. Brocka have started duties. Rural residents should have property listed when called to speed the process. Mr and Mrs Wayne Ritter are new residents and welcomed a son born Monday at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. The infant weighed 9 pounds 5 1 4 ounces.
Transportation aid warrants issued for Butler County districts total 5,650,477.75 with a 60.1969 percent pro rata payment from an appropriation of 4,003,378.65. Eligible districts include Allison-Brostow, Aplington, Clarksville, Dumont, Greene, New Hartford Consolidated, and Parkersburg Community Schools with varying amounts listed.

United VTelephone Company Town announces a reshuffle with Richard Gaxsler and Jerme Newton Ginager taking senior roles in relations and operations. The move covers 46 000 stations across multiple exchanges while Harry Schuemann shifts to marketing supervision and Robert Sprague leads the Grundy Center area with several towns under his district.
Ramblers fall 48 to 47 to Rockford in Riceville Friday night. Butler County Republican Central Committee to meet at Allison Town Hall Thursday January 10 at 8:00 pm to elect a new county chairman as Vernon Kyhl resigns after being elected State Senator in November. All members and interested parties urged to attend.
Greene Ramblers lost a tight 48 to 47 game at Rockford while the Rambler ettes rolled 34 to 14. Jared Kingery 17 and Daryl Fischer 16 led Greene. Weoc topped Rockford with 12 points. Free throw woes and cold second half shooting hurt Greene, who fell to 4 wins 2 losses as St Ansgar led with 5 1. Connie Foster and Joyce Crosby starred for the Ramblerettes. Freshmen won 26 to 17 over Rudd with Fuscher leading Greene.

In Hospital Jason Uhlenhopp five month old son of Mr and Mrs Dean Uhlenhopp of Hansell was admitted to Park Hospital in Mason City for treatment on Friday.
Mr and Mrs Henry Siemens and their children arrived home at the start of last week after a month long vacation in Ostfriesland Germany.
About 100 Floyd County 4-H members from 1962 and 1963 will attend a recognition dinner January 10 at First Lutheran Church Charles City. C. J. Gaucher state 4-H director will speak on 4-H objectives and show Floyd County activities. County leaders Koehler Loud Krause Krause and Straube lead the appreciation event. Floyd County will host 18 girls clubs with around 3000 members and 13 boys clubs with about 300 members led by 51 girls leaders and 435 boys leaders.
Mrs Russell Poole underwent surgery Friday morning at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City and returned home on Tuesday.
About 25 Explorer Scouts and families from Greene Post 26 plan to travel to Waterloo next Sunday January 18 to watch the Waterloo Hawks play the Green Bay Bobcats in hockey. The group will attend the match as a supervised outing.
