May Edna Barth 71 died Sunday evening February 2 at her home. Born February 1 1898 in Proud County she was the daughter of Joseph Fisher and Anna Fisher nee Euzicka. Survived by husband Harry son Darrell daughter Charlotte O’Brien six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Preceded in death by son Merven. Services 11:00 p m today at St Marys Catholic Church with Fr Murphy. Rosary 8:00 p m Tuesday at Reid's Funeral Chapel. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery.
The sectional wrestling tournament will be held in Janesville on Wednesday February 12 starting at 4 30 p m. The seven team event features three rounds with no intermission. Teams: North Central Manly Nora Springs Clarksville New Hampton Duke Janesville Greene. District tourney set for February 21 and 22 at Jesup.
In Mason City at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital Mrs. Herman Stubbe underwent ankle surgery on January 22 and is now in Room 328. Her father Dan MacLeod broke his left hip on January 25 and had surgery on January 28 at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames.
Major Charles Rosburg aged 37 died Monday in England during evaluation tests on a vertical takeoff jet. He was the son of Rex and (the late) Rosburg of Vermillion South Dakota and grandson of Charles Rosberg, former Greene residents. Rosburg served in the U S Air Force and was among officers testing the Hawker Siddeley Harrier Jump Jet.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kielman of Clarksville announce the engagement of their daughter Joyce Kielman to Roger Hinders son of Mr and Mrs Paul Hinders also of Clarksville The couple plans an April 18 wedding Joyce is a senior at Clarksville High School Roger, a graduate of the same school, works at Viking Pump in Cedar Falls.
Mr and Mrs Allan Jacobson report Mrs Sigurd Jacobson of Milwaukee underwent surgery Thursday at Mount Sinai Hospital. She will remain a patient for several weeks at Mount Sinai Hospital 8 North 12th Street Milwaukee Wisconsin 53203.
The Greene high school and junior high concert set for Wednesday February 12 is postponed to Monday February 24. Students, staff, and families are asked to update schedules accordingly and attend the rescheduled performance.
Mrs Galen Stabenow 52 of Marshalltown dies after illness in hospital. Born January 23 1917 Cedar Rapids, daughter of Henry Beck and Zella Skillen. Survived by husband Galen, four sons Robert Donald Larry Roger, one daughter Judy Bonzer, nine grandchildren, two sisters Thelma Hammer and Irene Dunn. Gary Frahm Butler County Extension Director announced the Allison office will close Saturday mornings starting February 1. Hours remain 8:00 to 12:00 a.m. and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

George H. Staudt 72 died Sunday January 26 at home after a life as a farmer WWI veteran and Legion member. He lived in Dougherty forty years then Greene past years. survived by wife Mary two sons Donald Donovan a daughter Mary Abell eleven grandchildren and three brothers. Funeral Tuesday at St Marys Church with burial at St Patricks Cemetery Dougherty.
The Greene squad finished fifth at the Corn Bowl Conference Wrestling Tournament in Nora Springs. Greene wrestlers Doug Trees and Bob Ascher won titles, with Matt Trees and others placing in consolation rounds. Riceville won the team title with 84 points. Nora Springs, Nashua, Rockford, St. Ansgar, and Greene followed. Nora Springs finished sixth and North Central last.
Local residents Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Miller and others attended the FGDA Iowa 65th annual meeting in Des Moines January 27 and 28. About 1,000 cooperative elevator managers and directors registered. FGDA Manager Charles Hanson reported a record 63 million bushels of Iowa grain purchased last year. Discussions covered how cooperatives will serve tomorrow's farmers and how local cooperatives gear up to meet future needs.

NFO Ladies Auxiliary officers were also elected: Quentin Hildebrand Greene president Ron Muff Nora Springs vice president Henry Thatcher Charles City secretary Bernard Kisch Charles City treasurer.
Mrs Henry Nixt announces the engagement of her daughter Sharon Nixt to Jim Anthony son of Mrs Mabel Anthony. Both are Greene Community Schools graduates. Sharon is an Iowa State University graduate and works for the U S Department of Labor. Jim served four years in the Marine Corps and works for Control Data in Bloomington Minnesota. An April wedding is planned.
Area residents admitted to Floyd County Memorial Hospital include Mrs. Hattie Maxson, Mrs. Beulah Noehl, Mrs. William Winfield, Carl Maxson of Marble Rock, and Mrs. August Hauser of Greene. In wrestling, Dan Osier was pinned in 3:21 of the first round by T. Pospichal of Riceville. Greene travels to Plainfield Saturday for a dual meet and to North Central at Manly Monday after a weather postponement.
The Ramblers defeated St Ansgar 67 to 58 on home court while suffering their first loss of the season 63 to 38 to Manly. Ramblerettes routed Manly 54 to 32 as Greene seeks a final win over Rockford to complete a perfect conference slate.
Mr and Mrs John Golinvaux of Lisle Illinois announce the birth of a son on January 28 named John Carson Grandparents include Dr and Mrs Vincent Golinvaux of Waterbury and Mr and Mrs Harold Allison of Greene.
Mrs. Dwight Pooley was taken to Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City on Tuesday morning for treatment. Mr. Nels Hartgraves of Indio, California, entered Valley Memorial Hospital in Indio for surgery last week.
Floyd County Pork Producers held a banquet on January 30 in Charles City. Lloyd Marth of Rudd named Floyd County Master Pork Producer. he marketed 100 hogs in 1968. Vicky Ewald crowned 1969 Pork Queen. Dale Williams of WOI predicted larger family farms by 1973. Board members elected for 3 years: Mitchell, Schlick, Bierschenk, Bamker.
Laverne Kehoe a math teacher in Greene Community Schools will attend the Iowa State Educational Association Assembly in Des Moines from February 6 to February 28. Allen Green of Allison is the delegate for Allison-Bristow Dumont and Greene with Kehoe as alternate. Delegates will push bills to negotiate with faculty raise educator retirement benefits set uniform contract dates and lower bond passage to a simple majority. They will seek a professional standards board to supervise initial teacher certification and urge funding for urban school needs and legal status for student teachers. A legislative commission to study Great Plains Project and Iowa school organization is also proposed.
