Markle To Manage Farm Tractor Co

Dale Ott president of the Farm Tractor Co. of Charles City announced the purchase of Knapp Implement of Greene. The Greene firm will also be known as Farm Tractor Co. David Markle will manage the Greene operation and relocate when housing is found. Markle and his wife Betty have two children Barbara and Bruce. Markle has years of implement experience with Farm Tractor Co. in Charles City and with his father Fred Markle in New Hampton. Raymond Hauser will head the shop for tractor repairs.

Luther College Choir Announces Midwest Tour Start

The Luther College Choir of Decorah began a four state tour on Saturday January 28. The 62 member a cappella group will return to Decorah February 8 to present the Homecoming Concert at 8 15 p m. Greene residents include Darlyl Smith and Jeanette Wirth, daughters of local families.

Rites Held for Louise Wilkins 85 in Greene Iowa

Louise Wilkins 85 died at her son in law and daughter Basil Johnsons home after weeks of illness. Born December 9 1875 at Coldwater township she lived in the area all her life. She married Egbert Wilkins March 25 1899 and the couple lived on the same farm for 30 years before retiring to Greene in 1929. Funeral services were held at First Methodist Church in Greene on Tuesday at 2:00 with Rev Clayton Becker officiating. Burial in Rose Hill cemetery. Williams Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Esther Davis has returned home after a fall caused fractured hip at her residence. She was hospitalized at Cedar Valley Hospital. Clark Moser came home Thursday from Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City after major surgery on January 18.

Rites Held for Des Moines Resident Mary Cable

Mrs. Mary Cable 83 died Friday morning in Des Moines where she had lived for years. A Greene former resident, she was preceded in death by her husband and son Ewing. Survived by son Dr. L. D. Lambert of Des Moines and daughter Mrs Father Miller of Greene. Funeral services were held in Des Moines Monday with burial there.

The Community Center Committee met at the Center Monday evening January 30. Members come from City Council Commercial Club Parent Teachers Association Women's Club Library Board and Planning Board with Mayor Calvin Kelly present. Held Girl Scout Meeting At Rottlers

The Girl Scout Neighborhood meeting was hosted by Mrs. Vernon Rottler on Thursday January 26 at 1 30 pm. Directors from Charles City attended including Mrs Elizabeth Jones and Mrs Alice Hauser. Plans for a Dad Daughter date night February 28 and a Brownie parent pot luck March 14 were discussed. Scouts to open for the PTA on March 1 in uniform. A Red Cross First Aid course for Senior Scouts and leaders starts March 8. The third grade Brownie troop works on favors for the rest home for February. Refreshments followed.
