Norman Graven, son of Mr and Mrs J H Graven of Greene, acts as Mr Beach in The Silver Whistle a three act comedy presented by Wartburg College Players in Waverly Iowa in the chapel auditorium. Proceeds fund a drama scholarship. Curtain is 8 p m nightly Thursday through Saturday.
Dale Ott president of the Farm Tractor Co. of Charles City announced the purchase of Knapp Implement of Greene. The Greene firm will also be known as Farm Tractor Co. David Markle will manage the Greene operation and relocate when housing is found. Markle and his wife Betty have two children Barbara and Bruce. Markle has years of implement experience with Farm Tractor Co. in Charles City and with his father Fred Markle in New Hampton. Raymond Hauser will head the shop for tractor repairs.
The Luther College Choir of Decorah began a four state tour on Saturday January 28. The 62 member a cappella group will return to Decorah February 8 to present the Homecoming Concert at 8 15 p m. Greene residents include Darlyl Smith and Jeanette Wirth, daughters of local families.
Mrs Esther Hall and Miss Eleonora Huebner from Denison Miss Ethel Schwab from St Paul Minnesota and Mrs Doris Snyder from Charles City were hosted at the J L Agnew home over the weekend A birthday dinner for Miss Wright was served at Club Town on Saturday evening and guests were entertained at the Fort J Snyder home in Charles City
Louise Wilkins 85 died at her son in law and daughter Basil Johnsons home after weeks of illness. Born December 9 1875 at Coldwater township she lived in the area all her life. She married Egbert Wilkins March 25 1899 and the couple lived on the same farm for 30 years before retiring to Greene in 1929. Funeral services were held at First Methodist Church in Greene on Tuesday at 2:00 with Rev Clayton Becker officiating. Burial in Rose Hill cemetery. Williams Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Rev Emmett Busch will be installed as minister at St John s Lutheran Church Wilmar next Sunday evening February 5 He comes from Yellow Grass Saskatchewan Canada He will be installed by Rev August Baetke of Waverly who had served since Rev Floy left in May A reception for Rev and Mrs Busch and their two children follows at 7 30 that evening
Mrs. Harrison Bone reports end of the campaign shows $356.60 contributed by Town of Greene residents, compared with $323.46 last year. Mrs. Henry Bliss chairman notes Coldwater Township raised $46.00 this year versus $38.00 last year.
Mrs. Esther Davis has returned home after a fall caused fractured hip at her residence. She was hospitalized at Cedar Valley Hospital. Clark Moser came home Thursday from Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City after major surgery on January 18.
The Butler County Cattle Feeders banquet will be held February 22 at 6 45 PM in the Farm Bureau Auditorium Allison. The Greene Women's City Bowling tournament ends with Myrtle Sherman winning the singles, Dorothy Fischer dominating all events, and Sherman's Sport Shop taking the team title. Doubles go to Betty Steere and Lanora Shultz. high all events include Fischer and Sherman. Prizes include trophies and cash, with about a quarter of entrants receiving cash.
Mrs. Mary Cable 83 died Friday morning in Des Moines where she had lived for years. A Greene former resident, she was preceded in death by her husband and son Ewing. Survived by son Dr. L. D. Lambert of Des Moines and daughter Mrs Father Miller of Greene. Funeral services were held in Des Moines Monday with burial there.

Mr and Mrs Dick Witwer welcomed a son born Wednesday January 25 weighing 7 pounds 10 1/2 ounces named Michael Scott.

The Ramblers improved to ten wins with a 71-65 home victory over Nashua. Green led scoring with 20, White added 20 for Nashua, and reserves won 41-21. Next, Ramblers host Nora Springs then face North Central of Manly in a key title race.
Keith Harris, son of Mr and Mrs Cecil Harris, received a discharge from the United States Air Force after two years of service. He was stationed at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis New Mexico and returned home Sunday.
The Community Center Committee met at the Center Monday evening January 30. Members come from City Council Commercial Club Parent Teachers Association Women's Club Library Board and Planning Board with Mayor Calvin Kelly present. Youth Committee discussed scheduling at the Youth Center and equipment purchases were planned including card tables chairs and kitchen cupboards. Donations can be made to Mrs B V Andersen. Bob Shultz coordinates events and can be contacted for use of the Center if it does not clash with Youth Center activities.
Sacred Heart School in Greene will add a thrift education program starting February 7 under Sister Mary Alfred. Students in the Civics Club will sell U S Savings Stamps on Tuesdays, with albums exchangeable for Series E Bonds, taught to foster patriotism money management and responsibility with the First State Bank providing initial stamps.
Darrell Lantz Saylor of Hampton fined 25 dollars plus 4 dollars costs for speeding. Robert Louis Heft of Marble Rock fined 10 dollars plus 4 dollars costs for muffler violation. Harold W. McCluskey of Charles City fined 10 dollars plus 54 dollars costs for failing to place flares or reflectors. Galen W Hesalroad of Greene fined 235 dollars plus 13 dollars costs for improper registration.
Mrs Gene Curtis remains under treatment at University Hospitals Iowa City for two weeks with address care at Women’s Hotel. Mrs Fred Debner was transported by ambulance to Mercy hospital Waverly on Tuesday morning.
The Girl Scout Neighborhood meeting was hosted by Mrs. Vernon Rottler on Thursday January 26 at 1 30 pm. Directors from Charles City attended including Mrs Elizabeth Jones and Mrs Alice Hauser. Plans for a Dad Daughter date night February 28 and a Brownie parent pot luck March 14 were discussed. Scouts to open for the PTA on March 1 in uniform. A Red Cross First Aid course for Senior Scouts and leaders starts March 8. The third grade Brownie troop works on favors for the rest home for February. Refreshments followed.
