A Social Security Administration representative from Waterloo will interview residents in Al ison at the Court House on January 4 and 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The on site aide will help with federal old age survivors and disability insurance applications, original and duplicate social security numbers, and employer identification numbers. The Waterloo district office in room 702 of the Black Hawk Building at W. 4th and Commercial Sts can be reached at ADams 4 1554 for inquiries.
A public dance is planned at the Veterans Club for New Year’s Eve. The event is open to all community members.
Mr. Dean Uhlenhopp of Hampton was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on Sunday afternoon for major surgery on Monday morning. Mrs. Howard Clapham underwent surgery Monday morning at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. Mrs. Vera Davis underwent surgery Tuesday morning at Worrall Hospital in Rochester Minnesota.
Airman Keith Harris spends Christmas with parents Mr and Mrs Cecil Harris, returning to Cannon Air Force Base Clovis New Mexico on January 5 after a fifteen day furlough observed over the holidays.
New books at the Public Library include Saddle bag of Tales by Western Writers of America with Montgomery as compiler. Fiction selections feature Three in a Family by Pettigrew about a southern family and an out numbered Yankee, Insolent Breed by Deal tracing the Mottleys and their singing children, plus How The Queen Reigns by Laird offering an authentic study of the queen’s personality and life works.
A year end report by Theo J Bauman shows about 3618.8 acres of Butler county cropland will be out of production in 1960 under conservation reserve contracts. Contracts run 3 to 10 years with 2743.8 acres already out and 875.5 more expected in 1960. Nationally about 5 percent of cropland is under this program.
Harold Shultz visits W Davisville Rhode Island staying with Mr and Mrs Joe Wood for a few days before leaving January 8 to report to Puerto Rico for eight months with the Sea Bees.
Mr and Mrs Stanley Shook and children from Superior Wisconsin visit in the homes of Mrs Lyle Shook Mrs May Thorpe and Mr and Mrs George Shorman during the stay locally in the area
Knight's Court William Raymond Astor of Greene unlawfully operated a motor vehicle on a public highway at a speed exceeding the safe stopping distance and was fined $10 plus $4 costs. Farmers Co operative Elevator of Greene cited for rate violation under section 479.65 Code of Iowa, $50 fine ($25 suspended) and $4 costs.
Amy LeRae Ramker, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ramker of Waverly, born December 21 at Mercy Hospital, died December 28. Graveside services were held Thursday morning in Waverly Cemetery. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Will Ramker of Greene and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Kleinschmidt of Clarksville.
Week end visit by Mr and Mrs George Barnsi and their sons from Cedar Rapids with Mr and Mrs Jack Spratt over the Christmas weekend.
District Director Robert C. Wilson of the Immigration and Naturalization Service in Omaha Nebraska announced a new annual address reporting duty for aliens in the United States. By January 31 most aliens present on January 1 must file their address, with limited exemptions for diplomats and certain international organization appointees and temporary agricultural workers. Reports are obtainable at post offices or immigration offices in January, with penalties for noncompliance.
Mrs Carol Bird of Hampton spent from Thursday to Sunday in the home of her son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs George Koons during the Christmas visit.
Christmas visitors and holiday gatherings spread through the Greene community as families from Iowa Minnesota Illinois and Waterloo hosted relatives. Guests included the Blooms Kyle Marth Knox Uhlenhopp Willey and Lobbe families with extended visits from Lam bert Fries Graven and Brinkman households.
Mr and Mrs Allan Pooley and family from Minneapolis visited Thursday with his parents Mr and Mrs Dwight Pooley and family in their home.
The Greene Public Library will resume Story Hour this Saturday January 2 from 1 15 p m to 2 00 p m Children four years of age and older are invited to attend Use the side door for entry.
Mr and Mrs Dr Marsh spent Saturday and Sunday with Mr and Mrs J J Chukker at Worthington Minnesota. They were also joined by their granddaughter and husband Mr and Mrs Elmer Bruns and baby Jolene of Fargo North Dakota.
Mr and Mrs Russell Duncan Leonard Nichol Maynard Bruce and Lowell Maxson attended the Iowa Turkey Federation Convention in Cedar Rapids. Duncan who had been on the board and secretary treasurer for six years resigned and Clyde Stuniz was elected director from the Northeast district.
The Youth Center will sponsor a New Year’s Eve party on Thursday December 31 from 2:00 to 1:00 o clock at the new Youth Center with season tickets sold at the door for admission to all activities in the coming year. Parents will chaperone the dance.
Mrs Clifton Todd and six children from Independence Missouri visited her parents Mr and Mrs Charles Price and other relatives to spend Christmas. They returned home Monday. Mr Todd remains hospitalized in the Veterans hospital in Kansas City Missouri since September.
The Adult Farmers will convene next Monday evening January 4 at 8:00 at Greene High School. The program will cover crossbred, improved and hybrid hogs.
New residents Mr and Mrs Lyle Lewis of Isanti Minnesota welcomed an 8 pound 3% ounce daughter named Mary Kathryn born December 19 formerly of Marble Rock. Mr and Mrs Bill Vining of Charles City welcomed a daughter Sally Ann born Sunday December 27 weighing 7 pounds 13 ounces. Mrs Vining is the former Joan Lockwood of Greene. Mr and Mrs Clare Willsher of Marble Rock welcomed a 7 pound 6 ounce girl named Trudy Eileen born December 28 at Cedar Valley hospital in Charles City.
Mrs Reginald Drake of Saskatchewan visited her sister in Huntington Beach California after spending a month with her brother Archie Raymond in Greene.
State Safety Commissioner Donald M. Statton says race designations will not be required on driver licenses when permit forms are used next month, but a code will indicate color or complexion. The policy debate stems from the governor's Commission on Human Rights. State fairs officials oppose moving the Iowa State Fair earlier, citing PR concerns and prior attendance declines. The 1959 fair earned $2,900 on a $613,615 budget, with 415,981 in attendance. Edge markings will soon be added to primary highways, with four inch reflectorized lines at danger spots starting next summer.
