Mrs Thomason Killed in Wheatland Crash Details

Maude Thomason, 71, of Shell Rock died in a two car collision near Wheatland on Tuesday afternoon. Two Nashua women were injured, including Edith Robinson and Clara Thomas who was driving. Ice caused the car to slide into an oncoming vehicle. Survivors include sons Wayne Thomason of Greene and Galen Thomason of Cedar Falls and ten grandchildren. Funeral services are pending in Clarksville.

4-H Baby Beef Projects Begin Calf Start and Enrollment

Butler County Extension Director Kay Connelly reports most 4-H baby beef members have started calves. Enrollment blanks are due in the County Extension Office before January 1. Calves will be tattooed around the start of the year with no weight limit, and participants should judge their starting weight for fair time. Darrell Davis sold the East Side Texaco Station to Lewis Majewski who will take over January 1 1962 and lease the building. Dean Johnson of Oskaloosa will join Butler County Extension as County Extension Assistant starting January 1, 1962. He fills the vacancy from Varlyn Fink’s Army call up and will focus on 4-H club work. Johnson is a 1959 Iowa State graduate who taught vocational agriculture in Manila Iowa before attending the University of Minnesota for graduate work. He will relocate to Allison later this month.
