Baby Beef Tattooing Schedule Set in Butler County

4 H and F F A baby beef calves will be tattooed January 3 to 5 in Butler County. Calves must be haltered and tied, with a helper to hold them. Tattoo times span several townships on Saturday January 5 from Jackson 8 to 10 a m, Butler 10 to 12, Dayton 2 to 4, Coldwater 4 to 4 30, Bennedette 4 30 to 5 30, Pittsford 5 to 5 30. Last year 210 calves were tattooed, including 90 Herefords, 83 Angus, and 37 Short Horns.

Assault charge filed against Jerome J. Prokes in Shell Rock

Jerome J. Prokes, 24, of Shell Rock, was arrested early Tuesday by Sheriff Pete Boomgarden on an assault with intent to injure charge. He appeared in Justice of Peace Court in Shell Rock with bond set at $160.06 for the next term. Accused of pulling a knife on Gary Koop of Shell Rock. bond was furnished.

Wilcox Family Held Reunion at Veteran's Club

The Wilcox family reunion took place on Christmas day at the Veteran's Club with a noon dinner and a gift exchange. Attendees included the Hansen, Thierman, Lee, Wilcox, McGregor, Kateher, Batty, Knight families from Waterloo Charles City Nashua Rockford and surrounding areas.

Two Airmen Return Home From Basic Training

Private Bruce Maier arrived home Friday from Fort Leonard Wood Missouri after basic training. He will spend two weeks here before reporting to Camp Gordon Georgia for teletype operator schooling. Airman Second Class Keith Maier arrived home Saturday from Ellsworth Air Force Base South Dakota and will return on Thursday.

Coffee strips aid Christmas gifts for orphans and veterans

Mrs. John Groothuis president of the American Legion Auxiliary announced 1944 Butternut coffee strips and labels were sent in for Christmas gifts. The items were used for gifts for children in orphanages and for children of disabled veterans.

Aurand Family In Accident Saturday

Mr and Mrs Jack Aurand of Marion were injured in a car truck crash near Waverly at 1130 Saturday morning en route to Greene to visit Mrs Nettletons. The semi truck jackknifed, another car veered into a ditch to avoid the collision. Jeff was slightly hurt and Scott escaped injury. The couple were admitted to Mercy Hospital in Waverly. the children went to grandparents.
