Stores Open Nights This Week For Christmas Shopping

Greene stores will stay open evenings this week to help shoppers finish last minute Christmas plans. They will close at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

Services Held for Mrs. Susie Wiegmann

Funeral services for 83 year old Susie Wiegmann were conducted at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Greene with Rev. Donald Wahlgren officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery. She was born March 29 1893 in Coldwater Township Butler County and died December 14 at Shell Rock Care Center. She married William Wiegmann July 4 1920 in Waterloo Iowa. She was a former teacher in Butler and Floyd counties and is survived by two sisters a nephew a niece and Vern Prange who lived with the family.

Weekend Weather Outlook After Cold Start

Last week brought balmy days in the high 30s and low 40s with light snow melt. Sunday night produced flurries and gusty winds that faded. Temperatures fell below zero Monday morning, with a return to the 30s expected later Tuesday and through the week.

The Cub Scouts met at the Community Center on December 15 for a meeting and Christmas party. Wolf Den I led the flag ceremony while Webelos Den 2 staffed the program and refreshments. Numerous scouts received badges arrows and bicentennial patches including Mike Lewis Kevin Obermeier David Duffield Chad Folkers Kurt Graven John Viers Mike Bramer Tim Christensen Darin Klunder Rodney Freeseman and more. Wolf Den I earned the Cubby Award.

Outdoor Nativity Pageant Dec 23 at Church of the Brethren

The annual BUMPY outdoor Nativity Pageant is set for Thursday December 23 with showings at 7 and 7 30 in the church yard. The public is invited and the pageant may be viewed from car warmth. Back Seat Production sponsors a Greene Community Center high school dance Monday December 27 from 8 30 to 12 30 with Head Stone providing music and a $2 admission.

Rites Dec 20 for Ervin Busching

Funeral services for Ervin Busching of Plainfield were held Monday December 20 at First United Church of Christ in rural Clarksville with Rev. Merlin Dietrich officiating. Busching died December 18 after a stroke in November. He was born July 28, 1902 in Fremont township, son of Diedrick and Emmanee Boltman Busching. He married Elsa Miller March 27, 1933 in Fredericksburg. They lived on a Fremont township farm until February 1958 when they moved to Plainfield. He is survived by his wife Elsa a daughter Faye Louise Shalla of Iowa City a grandson Jeff Shalla two brothers George of Plainfield and Clarence of Shell Rock. He was preceded in death by his parents one sister and two brothers.
