Louis Henke lies in Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City after a Friday morning fall at his home left him with a fractured arm. He was admitted from his residence and is reported stable.
Butte County swine producers may attend a three day course in Allison on January 24 and 31 and February 7 1964. Topics cover swine production feeding housing equipment diseases and economics. Iowa State University specialists join local extension staff. Attendance limited to about 73 by advance sign up. Registration includes meals handbook and supplies. Henry Feyereisen reports his nephew Col Paul A Feyereisen of Washington DC has been promoted to brigadier general. He is assigned to Fort Monmouth New Jersey in charge of offices. Parents are Mr and Mrs John Feyereisen of Perham Minnesota formerly Greene residents.
Mrs. Anna Selven remains a patient at Cedar Valley Hospital following major surgery. James Graven underwent surgery Friday morning at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City and returned home Wednesday morning.
Lee Richard Johnson 21 of New Hartford was arrested by the Highway Patrol on December 6 on operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. He appeared in Wiegmann's court in Allison Friday, bond set at 300 dollars for the next term, and was released after furnishing bond.
Wilhelmina Heuer born April 12 1883 in Neuenknick Germany died December 8 Greene after a heart condition age 80 7 26. She came to America in 1824 with family settled Butler County near Allison then White Lake SD before returning to Butler County Wilmar area. She married Edward Heuer June 4 1902 near Wilmar and raised seven children. Survived by two sons five daughters sixteen grandchildren twenty great grandchildren four sisters two brothers and many relatives. Funeral at St Peters Lutheran Wilmar with Rev I J Devies. burial in Wilmar Cemetery. Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge.
Fine issued to Walter Wunsch of Greene for overloaded truck. Court lists J. P. Knight, assessed a $25.00 fine and $4.00 costs.
The Greene High School annual winter and Christmas concert will be held on Wednesday evening December 18 at 7 45 at the school auditorium. The concert band mixed chorus and girls glee club will be featured with selections including Bandology Skip to My Flute Burnished Brass Carmellita Symphonic Prelude Night Manhattan and Fugue N Swing. The chorus groups will perform Christmas songs including Songs of Christmas and Songs of Holy Night. Admission will be charged at the door.
The last waterfowl season ends when the Iowa goose hunting season closes December 13 at sunset. The State Conservation Commission reminds waterfowl hunters.
A candlelight service will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church on Thursday evening December 12 starting at 7:30. Presented by the Luther League and sponsored by the American Lutheran Church Women. The program includes a scripture reading carols and a film Great is the Lord. Refreshments and a social hour follow in the church basement. Family night invites all in the congregation.
Cub Scouts announce a Christmas party pack meeting next Wednesday December 18 at 7 30 pm at the elementary school. All Cub Scouts and families are invited including boys aged 8 and their families. Each family should bring one dozen cookies and each attending child a sift for the Sift exchange.
The Greene High Ramblers defeated Ackley 31 to 13 in the first varsity meet of the season. Behind 11 6 after five matches they rallied with a draw, one decision and four pins in the last six bouts. Merlin Whiteside earned the fastest fall at 0 48. A four match preliminary left Roger Shultz and Clark Allen with pins. Next, Greene hosts St Ansgar Saints in a dual meet at the high school gym with reserves at 7 00.
Robert Curtus local Postmaster announces the post office will be open Saturday December 14 from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. He urges use of zip code numbers on letters cards and packages and to include Greene's zip code 30636 on return addresses.
Albert Steere of Greene won the bank drawing for $25 at the First State Bank on Saturday.

The annual Christmas party for children of veterans will be held at the Veterans' Club on Sunday December 15 beginning at 2:00 p m. American Legion Auxiliary members are to bring cookies. Extra cookies will be sent to veterans' hospitals or orphans' homes in time for Christmas. The auxiliary is collecting old nylon hose jewelry spools and playing cards to be sent to veterans' hospitals.
Amy Gray, 85, died Sunday afternoon at Clark Rest home in Greene after months as a patient. Born March 2, 1878, to George and Abigale Crosby in Dayton Township. Survived by one daughter Mrs. Frank Thompson of Headsburg California and sister Mrs. Esther Davis of [incomplete]. Funeral Thursday at 2:00 PM at Reids Funeral Chapel with Rev Rex Wesne Gierde of Reformed Church officiating. Interment at [cemetery].
Two carloads of corn totaling 3450 bushels were donated this week for the Christian Rural Overseas Program. Voss Milling Company of Clarksville loaded the cars, dedicated in a brief outdoor service. Parkersburg sent the first car of 1450 bushels. the second car carried 2000 bushels. A few county residents gave money to buy more corn included in the donations.
Sergeant Smith announced special permission to enlist four area men for a San Francisco assignment with the Army Air Defense Command. They need a high school diploma, eight weeks basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, then transfer to San Francisco. Contact Army Recruiting Station in Waterloo Post Office on Mondays or Allison Draft Board before December 23 for information.
The Ramblerettes fell 43 to 36 and the Rambblers 45 to 43 at Manly on Friday night. Ron Stewart led the Ramblers with 17 points, and John Mead grabbed 10 defensive boards. Jim Lovstad sparked a late rally, but time ran out with seconds remaining.

Firemen were called to a Rome residence on 1145 Saturnm after a stove overheated due to a burned out chimney. no injuries reported. local officials investigated the scene and cleared the area once flames were extinguished.
County leaders appoint Cancer Crusade chairmen for 1964 organizing in each township. Mrs John Ohmen heads Fremont Dayton Jackson and Butler Townships with Clarksville areas. Mrs Wayne Zimmerman covers Bristow Coldwater and other townships while Mrs Raymond Allison serves Alvion Beaver Jefferson and Snell Rock areas. Mrs Leslie Van Raden leads Madison Monroe Austinville and Api esquerda neighborhoods. County plans April as Cancer Crusade month and will contact organizations about film showings.
