Elaine Klahsen of Aplington was crowned Miss Butler County at the fair on Saturday evening. Ann Shipman of Shell Rock was runner-up. Paul Schrage Injured in Truck Collision Near Elkader

Paul Schrage of Bristow was burned on his back and legs when his semi and another truck sideswiped near Elkader around 6 30 am Monday. The Ayers Oil Company of Aredale owned the semi. it rolled into a ditch and burned. Schrage was admitted to Central Community Hospital in Elkader and expected to be released Friday.

Reverend Byerly to Lead Interim Brethren Work in Cedar Rapids

Kenneth Brandt Byerly, pastor of Greene's Church of the Brethren, will relocate his family to Cedar Rapids for a two year part time interim pastorate. He pursued a doctorate at the University of Town School of Religion and served as a teaching assistant last year. For 1967 68 he receives a full tuition scholarship from the University upon faculty recommendation. Mrs Byerly will teach in Cedar Rapids public schools.

Local league, Little League and Babe Ruth players will attend the Minnesota Twins vs Red Sox game in Minneapolis on Saturday August 5. Departure 8:00 a.m. from the former bus barn. Dennis Hansen Joins USS Dupont Sea Duty

Seaman Apprentice Dennis R. Hansen USN, son of Mr and Mrs Howard C Hansen of Greene, is aboard the destroyer USS Dupont, which transited the Panama Canal to join the U S Pacific Fleet. Dupont, part of Destroyer Division 221, is homeported in Norfolk but now operates from San Diego. armed with three 5 inch guns, Hedgehog depth bombs and homing torpedoes for anti submarine warfare.

Farmers-Businessmen Softball Clash Sunday Evening

Greene merchants plan Friday sidewalk sale from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with bargains on main street. A former businessmen softball contest is set for Sunday at 7:30 p.m. with a Mothers versus Sons T-Shirt League game. Proceeds support local summer baseball programs and a Twins game trip. Several players face last minute lineups as managers hunt for participants.

Grand Champion Baby Beef at Butler County Fair

Jayne Roose, daughter of Mr and Mrs Don Roose of Allison, showed the Grand Champion Hereford. Her 1100 pound calf topped 231 entries in the baby beef class. Reserve Grand Champion was Michael Behnke with a 1080 pound Angus. Several other breed champions and blue ribbon winners are listed, including top Herefords, Angus and Shorthorn entries, with multiple exhibitors named.
