Hildebrand Held on Check Charge in Greene County Jail

Bernard Hildebrand age 20 was returned from Mason City to Allison on a check charge. He appeared in Justice of Peace court in Greene and pleaded guilty. Frank Knight sentenced Hildebrand to thirty days in the County jail in Allison.

Babe Ruth Team Drops Tournament Opener To Rudd

Greene Babe Ruth team lost 2 to 1 to Rudd in the Babe Ruth Tournament opener at Rockford Tuesday night. Rudd pitcher Mathison no-hit Greene, fanning 13. Greene’s Mark Ott allowed two hits and four strikeouts. Marble Rock beat Floyd 6 to 3 in the same program.

Injuries Reported at Cedar Valley Hospital Chronology

In Charles City Mrs. Emma Mather aged 89 was taken to Cedar Valley Hospital Thursday after suffering facial neck and ear burns believed caused by a fall onto a gas burner at home. Gene Viers was also admitted to Cedar Valley Hospital on Friday for treatment. Donald Bliss was admitted to Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo Tuesday after an electric shock from a saw. Bob Barnett was admitted to Veterans Hospital Iowa City Tuesday for examination and treatment.

Butler County Fair Opens with Horse Show and Attractions

The 105th Butler County Fair at Allison opens Friday August 4 with entries accepted 9 AM to 9 PM except Floral Hall 6 PM. Highlights include a 19th Annual Saddle Horse Show, 12 classes judged across two days, juvenile and amateur divisions, an Appaloosa show, and new acts by Judy the rhesus monkey, Mary Jane the baboon, Elena Omar, and Gerrie Lamm. Horse racing, free attractions, and a Sunday Children’s Day Growing event are planned, with livestock auctions, a Tournament of Thrills, and a Regional Queen of Conservation crowning.

Miss Lois Busch of Allison and Miss Fileen Miller of Dumont lead Butler Soil Conservation District in the regional Queen of Conservation contest at the Butler County Fair in Allison on August 7 at 7 00 p.m. Nine regional winners advance to the state crown event September 17 1961 at the Hotel Savery Des Moines.
