Greene Ramblerettes opened track season with a strong fourth place at Ackley on April 8 led by Pam Miller who won two sprints and Julie Johnson in discus. Relay teams claimed top spots, while Janet Schafer and Barb Markle posted several high finishes. Daniel E Evanson, 19, son of Mrs Mardel Evanson, promoted to Army Specialist Four in Germany.

The Girls League played benefit games with Bobcats beating the Daredevils 14 to 10 led by Lois Heeren 10 points and Brenda Schafer 4. Former Greene resident Lydia Fowler dies in Oregon
Lydia Wyatt Fowler, born August 19 1883 in Flora Indiana, died March 29 in Portland Oregon where she had lived for over 40 years. Survived by two sons Paul and Chester a daughter Lucille Hanks three grandchildren five great grandchildren and brother Ike Wyatt of Minnetonka Minnesota. Her husband Joe Fowler a daughter Mildred Fowler and several siblings preceded her in death.

ISU golf team led by junior captain Dick Stunt at the Combhusker Classic in Lincoln finishing second behind Nebraska. He belonged to the Army Reserves reaching Master Sergeant, married Lavonne Eldridge July 17 1943 in San Luis Obispo California, worked at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works 28 years, resident of Waterloo since 1945. Survived by wife mother stepfather two daughters a sister and a stepsister and a grandson. Preceded in death by his father.

The Six Flags band trip fund reached $3200 this past week. The Jazz Band dance and entertainment, led by Rev and Sirs Maurice Frevert and committee, earned $220. The Frevert committee, with the Max Wegand committee, made $180 at a car wash. A bake sale run by cochairs Landers and Zurcher raised $125 at the Community Center. Rams win Rockford Relays at Greene High School meet
The Greene High School boss track team topped the Rockford Relays with multiple event wins. Highlights include Jim Van Eschen, 5 ft 8 in high jump. Brian Frevert, 18 ft 10 in long jump. Toe Viers 192 in high hurdles. Billy Astor, Chris Rutz, John Schwennen, and Frevert anchoring the two mile relay. Second place in low hurdles went to Don Schroeder 25.1. Byron Davis cleared 10 ft polo vault. 880 yard relay team included Van den, Rich Allison, Ray Lynch, Frevert. John Van Eschen led a 3rd place long jump and Steve Stark threw 97 ft 6 1/4 in discus. Jim Van Eschen 33 ft 7 7/8 in shot put. high jump also noted by Steve Reed 5 ft 2 in. The meet also featured a 408.1 motley relay and a 50.4 5th place 440 yard relay alongside 100 yard dash by Steve Reed.
