Child Burned by Ether Fire in Lafayette Home
Late Saturday evening a two year old boy, son of Dr. DeVoe, found a bottle of ether, pushed it near a base burner, and the bottle exploded. Flames scorched his head face arms and body, skin and flesh peeled from his fingers, and his eyesight may be lost. Recovery doubtful.

Rat bites suspected rat poison case in New York
A 33 year old stableman, Robert Carter, was bitten by several rats at his stable on Twenty fourth Street. He rushed to Bellevue Hospital as his hand and arm swelled and he showed signs of rat poisoning. Doctors fear infection and treated him in the surgical ward.

Hunting the coon with Uncle RiMe in the mire fall tale
In mid November 1874 I joined Uncle RiMe for a coon hunt. We followed hounds Drom and Carlo to a swampy tree where Uncle climbed and shook the coon free. He fell into the mud during the descent, was Iinduced from the mud, and the coon was eventually captured with Aunt Sue turning the hide into a blanket.
