$1 Judgment Award In A Damage Suit

A Putnam circuit court jury found in favor of Archie Kahl Danville attorney against Louis Stevens Green caade druggist for damages in the auto crash of November 4 1928 awarding $1. Kahl may appeal. costs to him amount to $2 per the law for awards under $4. Trial began the week before Thanksgiving with witnesses for both sides.

Ralph Howard to Speak at Bloomington Saturday

Ralph Howard superintendent of the Indiana State Farm at Putnamville will speak at the third regional crime conference in Bloomington on Saturday December 6. He will discuss The Penal Institution and Prison Labor as part of a morning and afternoon program with judges mayor and university officials among the expected participants.

Sigma Nu Dog Theobald III Dies From Blood Poisoning

Theobald the third, a large Newfoundland owned by Sigma Nu members, died Friday from blood poisoning after being injured in a fight last Saturday with a dog from Wabash College near Seminary and College avenues.

Nazarene Group Meeting Set for Monday and Tuesday

The Northwestern Group of the Nazarene church will meet here on Monday and Tuesday. The program begins Monday at 6 50 PM with a basket dinner at noon Tuesday, followed by a business session and closing sermon Tuesday evening by Rev. Orville Marsh.

Dates Speakers for Institutes Announced in Putnam County

County agent Floyd Miller announced the schedule for eight Barner institutes in Putnam County in early February. The new sessions include Belle Union and Clinton Center with speakers Harry F. Caldwell, Mrs. M C Roberts, Maurice P. Shierling, and Mrs. Belis House. Each institute lists a chairman and regional host towns with dates from February 4 to February 14.

Three Die As Train Strikes Car In Brazil

Edward J. Butler 50 president of BE L Butler Coal Co and his brother in law and sister Mrs S BE Kessler aged 46 and 47 were killed when their car halted on Big Four tracks near Perth station in front of a westbound passenger train. Bodies strewn for nearly a mile. Butler formerly resided in Chicago and had been in town twelve years.

Deputy Nabs Tire Thief Near Cloverdale

David Delmar, 38, jailed in Putnam county awaiting arraignment before Judge James P. Hughes on grand larceny charges. He allegedly stole two tires and tubes worth 50 dollars from Harold Walker near Cloverdale on October 4, after being nabbed by Deputy Alva Bryan Friday near Cloverdale. Witnesses include Harold and Vesta Walker and Virgil Dean.

Men Held for Manslaughter Released on Bond

Two men jailed on manslaughter charges in Montgomery County are freed on $2,500 bonds each. Edgar A. Burpus, whose auto struck Joyce Whitlock, 10, near her home, and George Little of Indianapolis, were released after bond postings. The crash on November 17 at Highway 34 injured David Corbin and Ames Dowell died. investigators found the truck lacked a taillight.

Two Die as Interurban Strikes Truck at Plainfield Cross

In Plainfield Indiana Martin Burris of Franklin was killed and John Curry of Franklin seriously injured when an interurban car collided with their truck on the Terre Haute Indianapolis and Eastern line at the National Road crossing west of Plainfield. The truck carried a load of large straw and ore and derailed, with Burris crossing apparently not slowing for the oncoming car.

Robbery at High Polar Oil Station on East Washington

Thieves broke in late Friday night at the High Polar Oil Company's station on East Washington street. About $36 and two dozen pairs of gloves were taken. glass in the south door was broken and the cash removed to a paper towel container. Police say amateurs committed the raid, which was uncovered by O B Collins at opening time.

Streets Decorated for Christmas Opening in Greencastle

Workmen began decorating downtown Greencastle for the Christmas opening next Wednesday. About three days needed for lights and Laurel garlands as banks join with the Chamber of Commerce. Thirty thousand dollars in Christmas checks to Putnam County residents will be mailed Tuesday night. Merchants invite window decorating contest with three awards as Santa Claus visits the courthouse at 8 PM after registration.

Cascade Gardens Burns in Bloomington

Cascade Garden amusement building a mile north of Bloomington burned last night causing an estimated loss of 15000 dollars. The structure had recently been converted from a dance hall to an indoor golf course and there was no insurance.
