The Republicans held a Saturday night celebration on the square with a negro drum corps, the Green entie band, floats, and a loud crowd. Armored horns and noise makers filled the scene as Descriptive campaign elements and a riverine Ox watch drew laughs from onlookers.
After a tough clash with Centre College in Indiana, DePauw players were badly battered with twisted ankles and knee injuries. McCann suffered a badly wrenched knee, while Menennhall elbow and ankle injuries limited play. Two weeks rest aims to return all players in shape before the Tigers face Wabash in the season finale.
Miss Thatcher Cooper and Cecil Barnett were married Saturday at 2:80 o'clock in the Christian church parsonage with Rev. Levi Marstall officiating. The ceremony took place in the city, and details follow in society notes.

Centre and DePauw announced they will meet again next year in Indianapolis. The decision came after a postgame dinner at the Severin hosted by the DePauw alumni board. Attendees included Mayors Jewett and Blanchary along with Moran and Buss and the full squads.

Howard Harris appoints Brax Stringer as deputy sheriff for the remainder of his term. Fred Lancaster resigns from the deputy position effective Saturday, ending his tenure.

Purdue University Extension reports 382 farmers institute meetings from November through February with 36 speakers. County programs will include one day sessions, some two day events, and local discussions on farm and home practices. Speakers include Purdue specialists and a long list of regional authorities.
Sherrill and Sherrill of Cloverdale Putnam county agents for Overland cars have bought the Engle garage on Franklin street from the R E Kool Co for 6700 dollars. The deal ends a two month occupancy after taking over when the Knoll Co left the Dodge agency. Clyde Walls will continue as manager of the Green Castle branch and run the business. The garage is described as one of the most complete in the county.
Purdue official warns Indiana farmers to avoid dodder in clover seed as samples show high dodder counts. Dodder is a parasitic weed that harms clover by attaching to the plant and spreading, risking entry bans under the Seed Importation Act.
Dodder plants have slender threadlike stems in lemon yellow orange or pink. Seeds are tiny about 1/120 inch in diameter oval flattened brown or grey with rough surface. Clover with dodder must be cleaned. farmers should handle seed carefully or use seedsmen with special cleaning apparatus.
After last Tuesday's election in Putnam county about 700 registered voters did not cast ballots. Absent voter ballots were widely misused with roughly 600 sent to county residents who claimed disability to avoid voting in person. Leaders from both parties urge repeal of the absent voters law.
Governor Goodrich announces three appointments to the legislative visiting committee Estes Duncan of Cloverdale will represent the senate Otto G Fifield of Hebron will be the Republican member and David N Curry of Carlisle will serve as the Democratic representative.
Locust Street church reports officer elections at Sunday meeting. Madonna Thomas elected president, Louie Harris vice president, Ruth Bryan secretary, Frederick Thomas treasurer, Virginia Quigg pianist, and Lucille Merrick as secretary. A special program followed in the afternoon.
Mr and Mrs W A Stucky of Catarrac visited Sunday with Mr and Mrs George Christie. The Champer Barn cow sale drew good prices. Mr and Mrs Fred Hixon of Indianapolis joined Dr and Mrs A W Broadstreet for a Sunday visit. Broadstreet is Hixon's daughter. Mr and Mrs Sayers host cards Tuesday for Mr and Mrs Fred DeHaven recently returned from South America. DeHaven is Sayers sister.
King Morrison & Foster host opening night for the new Ford and Fordson Sales Room in Cloverdale Putnam county with 7 pm reception and dance. Indianapolis orchestra plays, welcome address, free picture show, vocal numbers and refreshments. Two $50 Ford purchase orders to be given away.
Hog receipts reached 9 000 with prices 10 cents lower at opening. Hog prices hovered around 13.85 with some 13.90 to 14.00 and heavy hog tops at 14.25. Pigs 15.35 down and sows 15.00 down. Cattle and calves slid, calves to 1650, and sheep lambs weakened, best lambs 10.75 and sheep 5.00.
The Locust Street Prayer Meetings list home venues this week with leaders Mrs Bader Mrs Badger Mrs Manuel and Mrs Badger inviting neighbors. Glenn Stringer leaves for Texas seeking better health after aiding the Democratic Central committee during the campaign. Miss Alta Cramp and Miss Nellie Browning visited Bloomington. The S C C Club and Locust Street Aid Society set meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings respectively. Rev H C Clippinger to lead a brief prayer service for Win My Chum Week and evangelistic efforts.
