Attempt to Steal Car Also Robbery at Mt Meredian Store
Auto thieves broke into the Albert Tincher store at Mt Meredian on Monday night breaking a front window and unlocking the door. Merchandise valued at 1000 to 1200 was carried to a waiting car. thieves also tried to steal Fred Tincher’s Maxwell nearby by pulling it with a rope before abandoning the attempt. A resident reported hearing a noise near 3 am and seeing a large auto towing another car east then west along the road.

Chicago January 27. Owners of the steamer Neff planned to use airplanes to search a lake after the craft broke through ice and disappeared with six men aboard. Coast guards and lighthouse keepers conducted a night search with powerful lights but found nothing leaving the fate of seven men unclear.

A long Sunday gathering drew many residents despite icy roads. Mr Madigan and Mrs Stanley spoke while the county superintendent urged rural school improvements. High school music pleased the crowd and Home Economics prizes honored top entries in sewing, embroidery, baking, and cake. Officers for next year were elected including John T Sutherlin as president and Mr Davis as secretary.
