A large gathering filled a banquet in Green Castle as about 150 businessmen and citizens attended the chamber of commerce reorganization meeting at Vhrmillions cafe on Monday night.
The Greencastle Chamber of Commerce reorganization banquet at Vermillion's Cafe boosted plans to revive a live chamber. Speakers outlined duties of a modern chamber, emphasized capital and management, and set new membership terms from 25 cents to 2.50 monthly with three year commitments.
President George R. Grose attended the funeral of John S. Goodwin class of 1877 trustee and Chicago attorney. Indiana official Oscar H Williams urged DePauw students to enter teaching with pay parity. Coach Joseph optimistic about the 1920s DePauw baseball team as Isenbarger Cannon Tuhey Darnell Norris Miller Guild slated to fill infield and outfield roles. The DePauw band schedules a concert in McHarry Hall at 1 o'clock with a planned program.
The Putnam county discussion contest will be in the high school auditorium on March 26 with only one representative from the local school. Local reading, voice, piano and violin contests will precede the county event, with winners advancing to the district and state contests.
The membership campaign opened last night with a large subscription from American Zinc Products Company. The total membership count remains incomplete and will be published soon.
The Indianapo lis sporting editor honors Sterling Green Castle Center for earning all state guard honors with Hirt and others receiving honorable mentions in the all state listing.
Greencastle High School center Carl Allen tallied 38 points and earned a place on the Indianapolis News all state team as back guard and floor guard J Wert and L Hirt also received honorable mention. The News lauds Allen for versatile play and notes he carried 36 of his team's 58 points in three tournament games. Real estate transfers from Greencastle and surrounding townships are listed with details of buyers, properties, and prices. Samuel Whisand of Lafayette visited Greencastle on business.
Secretary Beebe of the Greencastle Chamber of Commerce announced the five section committees overseeing membership enrollment under the new plan. They will meet tonight in the Chamber rooms to organize their districts. The business men will be seen Wednesday by the committee. The sections list members including Brown Mullins Wallace Hazelett. Meauchey escorts him to Indianapolis. Ross Runyan, ill with influenza, is improving and out downtown.
Jaceson Boyd died this afternoon at 1 30 after a long illness of pneumonia and heart complications. The death ends a life of public service and community involvement.
Jackson Boyd prominent Greencastle attorney and author died at 1 30 PM at his East Seminary Street home of heart disease following a pneumonia illness. He leaves wife Ida Cullen Boyd. Also notes livestock show pavilion meeting set for March 20 in county, plus other local notices and brief items.

Thieves forced entry into the Jennie Johns Pressing and Cleaning office on Vine Street Monday night. Glass in the rear door was broken and money was taken before escaping.
Robbers broke in Monday night by breaking the rear door glass at the Jennie Johns Pressing & Cleaning offices. They searched the cash register left open but found no money, leaving a sack of Prince Albert tobacco in the drawer and water from rain entering after a storm. The thief fled. a prior break in months earlier saw clothing stolen and a thief was arrested and sentenced to prison.
