Professor William R. Sherman has come back from the International Foreign Trade Convention in Buffalo New York held at the Statler Hotel. Notable speakers included Hoy Eric H Louw minister to the United States from the Union of South Africa O K Davis secretary of the National Foreign Trade Council Eric T King of the U S Department of Commerce J W Meekins U S Commercial Attache at Ottawa and Howard S Welch of Studebaker Pierce Arrow Corp.
Joseph Wright Jr son of Mr and Mrs Wright Sr of Putnamville sustained a deep laceration to the back of his head when bumped by a horse Sunday afternoon in the barn yard at his father’s home. Dr A E Ayler treated the wound and the boy’s condition was reported as good.
Daniel V. Hurst, a well known former Democrat in the city, announces his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Assessor of Monroe township. He is described as highly qualified for the position.
Mr and Mrs Frank Shoptaugh of East Seminary street are released from quarantine this morning. Their son Hillis Shoptaugh, a patient at Robert Long hospital with meningitis, is out of danger and improving though a return home date is unknown.
Harold Wright purchased Joseph Evans’s Manhattan residence. The deed confirms transfer of Evans’s property to Wright in the New York city block.

Courtland C. Gillen, Greencastle attorney and Putnam County resident, officially declares his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Congress in the Fifth District. A long-time local figure, he has served as prosecuting attorney, county attorney, school board attorney, and partner in the Corwin Gillen firm, with extensive Democratic activity statewide. He and his wife have three children.
Montgomery, district representative for Purina Mills of St. Louis, announced the completion of a new one million dollar feed mill in Denver. He says the plant is among the most modern in the country. Purina Mills now operate eighteen milling properties.
The Purple Robed Choir rehearses for a concert Tuesday evening in Meharry Hall led by Kerneth Umfleet. Members include Virginia Throop president and many others. program features diverse choral works by Palestrina Bach Cherubini Schubert and more with solos and duets by listed performers.
The Diltz bridge, 209 feet long, is the county's first large concrete bridge and was completed by Sam Gibson. J. N. Dalby, C. C. Hurst and William Sullivan will represent Greencastle and Greencastle township at the Democratic convention in Indianapolis. Miss Hattie Joslin returns home from Mephi Utah after teaching there. Mrs. Harry Moore and her young daughter come home from Chicago after visiting relatives.
William Howard Taft former chief justice and ex president has died in Washington. Burial is set for Tuesday on a hill overlooking the Potomac River with funeral at All Souls Unitarian Church. Services will be broadcast by Columbia and National networks.
Walter Bidwell announces Voncastle theater will install Vitaphone equipment within days. Vernecastle and Granada will offer talking and Movietone productions respectively. full schedules to June 1. First National and Warner Brothers Vitaphone titles to be shown at Voncastle.
In Attica Saturday the Greencastle Tiger Cubs dominated the Attica Regional, defeating Crawfordsville and Clinton contenders. Evan Crawley led with nine field goals and strong defense from Gene Crawley as Greencastle secured a clear showdown status for the state tournament.
Report from Attica details FE Crawley’s breakout with six baskets in the matinee and nine more in the night as Greencastle and Clinton players clash. Gene Crawley guards hard and assists on scores while Ellis fights through a swollen ankle. Attica’s crowds were small but energized as Greencastle claims the evening win.
The Chamber of Commerce holds its annual dinner tonight at 6 30 o clock in the Country club with Harry Allen presiding. Warren T. Smith of Indianapolis will speak, along with C M Lample of St Louis who will discuss locating an intermediate landing field here. A strong ticket sale is reported.
Professor R E Hutchins of Rose Polytechnic Institute told the army engineers in Louisville that January floods on the Wabash and White Rivers caused about 6 million dollars in damage. The losses cover land from the Wabash south to Logansport and White River area to Pike County, with 480000 acres flooded.
