Eighteen high school quintets representing Clay Putnam and Montgomery counties compete in the Greencastle sectional of the State High School Association. Teams vie for advancement to the regional rounds in this central Indiana prep basketball event.
Eighteen high school quintets from Putnam, Clay and Montgomery counties converge on Greencastle to start the Indiana IHSAA sectional tournament at DePauw Bowman gym. Play began Friday at 8 am and continues to Saturday evening with the final deciding the winner.
Roachdale and Waveland squares off as Brazil Bainbridge fans attend at 1 PM with names listed including Albert McNutt John Wardlow and Emanuel Miller. Greencastle sends eight players while Wayne Town is praised by Coach Cain for a strong season push. Referees are Charles A Jenson and B F E Bayh of Terre Haute.
Robert Ader, a prominent Clayton and Hendricks county citizen, died suddenly in Frankfort Kentucky from apoplexy Tuesday night. He had been in normally good health while returning with his wife from a winter visit to St Petersburg Florida, stopping in Frankfort on the way home.

A vesper service at College Avenue Church features a Paul Bliss song cycle Four Scenes from the Life of Mary with Mrs Otis and organ by Mr Gail Lancaster. DePauw Tigers outscored Earlham 41 to 13 in a dazzling game. Newt Carlisle starred for DePauw with early buckets and Lawler added nine free throws. The Tigers dominated from the start, holding Earlham to just two field goals, with Cannon scoring five goals and Gipson contributing seven fouls. The game featured fast team play and a relentless inside attack led by Carey and Cannon. A separate note reports the death of Paul Leatherman, 44, who collapsed at the county court house. his body awaits disposition at McCurry. J. P. Allen, Sr., travels in Chicago on business.
The Indiana University class of 1919 plans a bronze memorial tablet in a university building to honor fifty two students who died in the world war. The tablet will bear the names of the fallen heroes.
Former soldier and sailor boys hold a meeting Thursday night to discuss plans for the ensuing year including vocational training and a relief fund.
The Greencastle Camp of the American Legion elected Charles Dennehue as commander and Robert Huffman as vice commander with D S Pickett as adjutant. An executive committee was named and plans discussed to enroll hundreds of Putnam county veterans and to raise relief funds plus a permanent hall for meetings.

March 5 Maurice Murphy sergeant in charge of an emergency squad was fatally wounded in a running revolver battle with Henry Thomas alias Hell Cat a desperado and burglar in Indianapolis Murphy died at City Hospital shortly before 6 pm. Thomas was fatally wounded by Lt Herbert Fletcher or Lt Edward Ball both police officers who fired as the fight ended.
Reverend Don Nichols former Locust Street M E Church pastor now in Indianapolis visits this city on business and to see friends. C H Barnaby and son travel to El Paso to join Mrs Barnaby and daughter Dorothea who spent the winter there. Mildred S Richardson wins Cloverdale Bainbridge oratorical contest. debate follows on League of Nations article. The funeral for Paul Leatherman, who died of acute dilation of the heart in the county courthouse lobby, will be Saturday at Little Walnut Baptist Church. body held pending word from Dr Leatherman of Wichita.
Cloverdale won the triangular debate held last night with participants Gosport Cloverdale Bain Pridge and Roachdale competing in the contest.
Gosport defeated Cloverdale and Roachdale in a triangular debate on revising Article 10 of the League of Nations. Gosport spoke for the negative and won overall, with Cloverdale taking first and third in the oratorical contest behind Bainbridge in second. Judges were Prof. Tien and Miss Lela Walls from Greencastle.
DePauw plans a March 18 triangular debate with Earlham and Albion colleges on compulsory arbitration for labor disputes. DePauw affirmative faces Albion, while Albion and Earlham meet on opposite sides at DePauw. Earlham affirmative battles DePauw at Albion. Professors coach. student elections note Conservative gains with underclass offices won while sophomores align with Conservatives and freshmen lean Progressive.

Mr and Mrs Charles Conklin have returned from their wedding trip and will make their home in this city. Mrs Conklin was formerly Miss Ethel McDonald.
