Ten years after its co charter with the government the First National Bank reports building 40000 in additional safeguards for customer confidence and cooperation. The bank invites joiners and pledges no loss of trust will occur.
The council is seriously considering purchasing a new fire fighting apparatus to replace the old Dobbins truck. Estimated cost around $3,000.
A special meeting of the council discussed replacing two fire teams with a motorized fire truck equipped with chemical tanks ladders and hoses. A representative from Howe Engine Co quoted 3250 with full gear and 2750 without chemical gear. The council favored the upgrade expecting savings from horse feed costs and maintenance but no final action was taken. The next council meeting set for July 14 will decide.
County Attorney C Gillen asked the council to urge the county board to build a short strip of roadway from the Monon railroad north to the corporation line on the Greencastle Crawfordsville road. The board may set the contract in July, with payment from read bonds proceeds. The city would not incur expenses without a definite decision. Extra council session next Saturday may discuss sewer plans. J G Martin reported gas main excavations. Abrams granted permit to rebuild on Illinois street. Ayler allowed to grade alley and build garage approach. Police to buy flashlight lamps. Claim ordinance approved.
Plan work on the Deke House notes it will be remodeled if present plans are carried out. Plumbing will receive attention. Phi Gamma House will be painted and repaired generally.
Plans announced by DePauw University fraternity members envision extensive remodeling of the Delta Kappa Epsilon house at College avenue and Seminary streets after condemnation by city health officer Dr Jerome King. Hubert Webster estimates costs near 1200 dollars with work possibly starting after alumni approval. changes include removing a dangerous tower, adding a new porch, painting, redecorating, refinishing floors and stairways, and overhauling plumbing for sanitation. Local Phi Gamma Delta chapter at 1002 South College Avenue plans painting and repairs by August 1 at an expected cost around 200 dollars.
The funeral of Clyde B. Broadstreet a prominent local businessman occurred at Cloverdale cemetery at 3 30 this afternoon due to extreme heat. Members of the Indiana Democratic Editorial Association travel to Evansville for a three day convention. Cars will stop briefly in Greencastle for a short official break as part of the itinerary.
Interurban cars carrying Indiana Democratic Editorial Association members and families will pass Greencastle tomorrow noon on the way to Evansville for the spring convention Thursday through Saturday. The group will travel to Terre Haute by traction and to Evansville by the C and E I railroad. Food and entertainment plans include a banquet, boat trips, and a barbecue lunch in Evansville and Mt. Vernon. State Superintendent Charles A. Greathouse will host at Mt. Vernon.
An automobile carrying Mr and Mrs Harvey Reeves returning from a visit near Greencastle skids and overturns after separating from Mrs Reeves. The car sustains minor damage with an estimated repair cost of about 75 dollars.
Mrs Reeves drove the Ford on Walnut Street Pike when gravel caused a skid and the car overturned into a side ditch. The vehicle sustained about 75 in damages including a bent axle and broken wheel though no one was hurt. Mr Reeves had had a successful insurance trip and the couple remained uninjured. Mrs Frank Roberts attended Moses Burgess’s funeral in Filmore today.

The group seeks sufficient financial backing to support a forthcoming injunction suit to prevent bond sales and delay construction. The outcome hinges on fundraising by July first and the Saturday assembly at the courthouse.
