Survived by wife and five children with relatives from Parkersburg Bloomington Columbus Logansport Shannondale Crawfordsville and Indianapolis attending from distant towns.
The Ohio State Supreme Court ruled four to three to order the release of George Remus, former bootleg king, from the Lima State Hospital for the Criminally Insane, finding him sane and affirming an earlier appeals court decision.
Greencastle men accompany Judge James P. Hughes fifth district delegate to the Democratic National convention at Houston Texas. The party traveled in two cars owned by Ott Webb and William Kocher with Curtis Hughes Charles J Arnold Harry Moore Charles Moore Ott Webb William Kocher and Robert Moody aboard.
John H. James a Greencastle attorney has been named acting judge of the Putnam Circuit court during Judge James P. Hughes absence at the Democratic national convention in Houston Texas. Hughes left Wednesday morning and James will likely finish the term ending June 30.
A high wind and heavy rain Tuesday afternoon caused damage across Putnam County. In Greencastle the impact was mainly broken limbs and tangled wires with no injuries reported. Outlying areas saw uprooted trees and wider disruption as rain continued and creeks rose to flood levels. Rain measured at .49 inches with a high of 85 degrees and high humidity.
Twenty years ago in Greencastle Mrs Anna Buchanan White died at her home on Indiana street from burns after her dress ignited. Miss Ann Cannon returned from Terre Haute after attending commencement at St Marys in the Woods. Miss DeEtte C Walker was elected state president of the Loyal Temperance Legion at Marion. Fred Goodwine bought a new Mitchell roadster described as light colored with red leather upholstery.
In London Miss Amelia Earhart receives continual ovations after her transatlantic flight. She shops and rests, crediting crew members Stultz and Gordon, while expressing interest in European aviation methods and a possible U S tour. She will meet royals unofficially and attend events hosted by Mrs. Guest and Mrs. Houghton.
Mare Davis 21 a printer from Green Castle wed Lucile Thompson 18 at home in Terre Haute. George E. Duckworth 23 a color lector and Elizabeth Beckmann 21 a factory worker, both of Terre Haute, also listed.
To celebrate Rev and Mrs Harlan Page Cory at 2889 San Pasqual Street Pasadena California they mark their 50th wedding anniversary on June 27. Dr Cory served as pastor of the Presbyterian Church in the city from May 1890 to November 1891. The couple will be remembered by many in the community and the church session through clerk BE A Brown sends congratulations.
Calvin Holmes 22 and Carl Jennings 34 of Terre Haute pled guilty to a March Union Station mail room robbery. Both received 25 years in Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary. Judge Baltzell indicated the case may not be finished and cited threats to mail attendants. Doc Spurgeon’s status was also noted for possibleFederal action.
Greencastle Chamber of Commerce merchants hold a fourth Booster contest for July. The June contest ends June 30 with strong ticket sales. July prizes mirror June awards. Contest runs from noon June 30 to Saturday July 28. A guardian petition was filed in Putnam Circuit Court for John A. O'Mullane of Cloverdale. John A. Miller represents the petitioner. The guardian is sought for an elderly, infirm individual unable to manage affairs.
A French seaplane with Rene Guilbaud and Roald Amundsen reportedly forced down in the polar sea after departing Tromsoe to find Umberto Nobile and the Italia crew. No confirmation of landings near Nobile's camp. Oslo monitors the 40 hour silence amid possible adverse weather and refueling delays.
Downtown traffic will be restricted for the summer opening concert with the south side of the public square blocked each night. No parking along the Court House curb on the south side to ensure an unobstructed view and sound for attendees.
